Default TOO old for this my IS 250??

I can’t believe I am posting this, but I am not happy with my 2009 IS 250.

My husband and I have a RX400H, 2008. I LOVE THIS CAR...when my husband retired we bought the IS for me to drive. I loved it at first...But then I realized this car may be too "young" for me...I am 55 yr old female and it's kinda hard to get in and out ...it is soooooooooooo low to the ground. That is my first issue.

2.my rims are so scratched up...I only remember hitting the curb one time and my husband hit something but I am not sure how I am getting all these scratches on my rims!!!!........someone told me that I should not have gotten high performance tires...they said when I hit any deep hole in the road it will scratch my rims..Well, it's too late to change out the tires...I looked on your threads to see how I can get these fixed but I couldn’t find anything. Lexus dealership said it would cost $200 a rim to fix.

3. The air out of the a/c when I first start the a/c it house this sour smell coming out. It goes away after a few minutes. It smells sour. My RX400 doesn’t do this. I have taken it in and they cleaned the a/c filter and told me when I park in the garage to switch the a/c to outdoor air. Not sure why they told me to do that. It still smells sour. There is nothing in my car that is old and rotten...

EVERYTHING else I love...I know I can’t change how low the car is to the ground but is there anything I can do to fix my rims!!! And has anyone else has a problem with the a/c smelling...(sorry I didn’t look up this thread first)

thanks for listening...

For a start, I wouldn't worry about the image that goes with the car, you should have the car YOU want/like. As for the getting in and out bit, I don't know what to tell you other than since you already have the car, it might be a little late to worry about that one unless it becomes a bigger issue.

Scratched rims: I've never seen a pothole scratch the rims, but I guess under the right conditions it's not impossible. I could see gravel fly up doing it maybe, and curbs definitely. I don't think the tires are the problem though, there are lots of people driving around on high performance tires in TX. I guess you could raise the car up a bit with aftermarket suspension if it's available but that seems counterintuitive to me.

A/C - no reason for the sour smelling air, I'd be asking the dealership to look into that a little further; I don't see why they would tell you to switch it to outside air either, I've never done that.

I don't know if that helps much, hope so.

As far as being too old for an IS, my wife is about to be 63 and loves her IS350. It is sporty but not too much so. She loves the lines and fit and finish of a lexus, plus the power. Neither of us find it too hard to get in to, but that is an individual thing.

There are specialists who normally come to the dealership who can fix the wheel scratches. $200 per whell sounds too expensive. Try finding one at a Toyota dealer. Scratches happen and depending on the wwheel, can be fixed.

As far as the smell from the AC, it is probably leaves and organic matter that have gotten into the drain system. This can be cleaned out at the dealer. We do not have this problem but have heard others with other cars that do.

Sorry you are unhappy!

You can probably trade your rims with someone that has the 17" rims from IS250 AWD. Smaller rims with higher profile tires should give you a softer ride, but it won't change the ride height.

The 17 inch is250 rims will make your car softer and give your rims more protection from potholes and curbs.

AC musty smell is common lots of new cars. Even if you clean it, it will eventually come back. My dealer recommended to always leaving the climate control on. The AC won't always kick in only when occassionally when needed to reach the desired temperature.

As to the ride height you probably have to get used to it. Maybe you can raise the seat higher and adjust everything to compensate. It might help a little when getting in and out.

Aaaww you're not too old to drive a IS. I've seen a woman around her 50s-60s driving an IS F O.O!!!!

I have the same issue on my IS F with the AC unit, my local shopped sprayed/cleaned it but a week or two later it came back again. So instead I brought it to the dealers to get it done and the same thing happens again. Less than two weeks after the AC cleaning. I went back to my dealers and told them about it, they redid it but it still came back so the best suggestion from what the service manager told me was to call in Lexus Corporate and notify them about the issue and see if there's any recalls or solutions to resolve this problem. By the way the odor is A LOT STRONGER when you first turn it on and have it on FAN instead of AC. :T

mold in your vents? before you arrive at your destination, you should turn off the AC and switch to fresh air to dry out the vents. if you don't moisture stays in there and eventually mold forms.

what you can do is change the cabin air filter and then blast the heat on the hottest temperature on high for a bit. it will hopefully burn off/blow out the mold.

someone recommended this stuff to get rid of the smell.

If it's 'truly' too low at stock height then you need to sell it. Raising it should be out of the question.

Rims are scratched because they've been curbed. Maybe you only felt it and subsequently noticed it once or twice but it's happened a lot more. If a pothole is deep enough to scratch the lip it's deep enough to bend the wheel. Should cost no more that $100 per wheel to fix anywhere else other than the dealer.
Switching to 17's - if you have 18's already - will give you more lip/wheel protection and a slightly cushier ride.

You should post the A/C question in the IS or General section to get a better answer.

Mold in AC vent is a common problem with the 2IS, the only practical solution there is short of taking the car apart is to turn on the heater full to kill the moisture, and 5 mins before you reach your destination turn the ac off and let it circulate outside air to let the moisture out.

Nothing is wrong with the problem other than the disgusting wet garden mulch smell.

The A/C smell is common. Like mikez suggested, turn your heater on full blast for a minute when you get in the car. It has to do with the draining system of the A/C system.
