Default Tire cut. Should I replace it?

This is actually not about my IS but about wife's Infinity FX.

I just noticed a cut on the thread part of the front tire. It is not exactly in the middle of the thread but close to the middle and is away from a side edge. The cut is about 1.5-2" long and I can see cord inside the cut. BTW, the tire is wide (265).

I did google search but all discussions I found talks about sidewall cuts. Just wondering what do you think about how dangerous it is to drive with such cut on the thread side of the tire.

I would say if you can see the cord, replace it. It's hard to give an opinion without a picture but from what you describe, I would replace it. You can always take it to a tire shop and ask for their opinion, worse thing they can say is to replace it, which is what I think you'll hear from the rest of the board. You wouldn't want to leave your wife stranded somewhere on the highway with a blowout.

Bought tires from TireRack and had discount tires installed them 1 year ago. Cannot find any paper work but since I bought them not from Discout Tires, I don't think I have hazard warranty.

Don't worry; there are plenty of other women to marry after she's gone!

Seriously, I wouldn't do more than 40 or 50mph on that tire. Discount tire is the best company for repairs. They'll look at it for free, and give you an opinion. Dismounting it will cost you about 18 bucks, if they have to do that. I'd just replace it. I got my tires from Tire Rack, too, and I thought they included some kind of road hazard warranty; you should check on that, on their website.

I agree, replace ASAP...
I don't gamble with tires... Compared to a life, they are cheap.

wonder what would cause that exact kind of cut...

I wouldn't drive on it, that's for sure.

After seeing that picture I'd definitely replace it! Looks like there isn't that much tread life remaining on it anyway to warrant trying to save it.

Definitely replace, probably a piece of metal that you hit just right (wrong?)

Is the car AWD? If so, you will need to replace with the same tire exactly (a good idea regardless), and the other tires tread will need to be measured to ensure there isn't a large difference from new. If all 4 tires look like that one, they you will be fine, just make sure its identical. If it isn't AWD, then its still a good idea to replace with the exact same tire...
