This isn't about running "meaty" tires- I'm not saying every car needs it. If you want to run a 255 out back, cool just don't exceed 10" on your wheel, 9.5" ideally. There's a GOOD reason why no reputable tire shop is going to do this for you. Any comparison to drift cars is absurd as well as we're talking about streets cars here, nothing more, nothing less.
Preaching to the choir bro, I've waxed lyrical about this.... However I realize it won't change a thing, so by helping to give tips on how to do this properly and keep the arguements low, members will at least be safer when they try this method of mounting tires for the first time.

I think this method harms less the wheel than normal wheel machines, which may cause scratchs and marks to wheel. Just balance the wheel/tire after you have "popped" if its necessary.
BTW can this be done with normal tire sizes(non stretch)? like 9.5" wheel + 265/40 tire.

Tell that to a buddy who totalled his 94 RX-7 running a 235 on a 10.5" wheel who had his beat unseat at 70 going around what I would consider a gentle curve (maybe 30-40* of steering angle?) where his tire was almost instantly destroyed flinging rubber into traffic damaging other cars and causing him to slide into another vehicle totaling both cars. The insurance companies were throwing around lawsuits left and right and thank god he had enough liability coverage to cover all the damage (total was over 100K). Was the tire shop liable? That's still going on...

I haven't had an issue personally except when the tires wore down to bare they would lose air pressure then I let it get to low and it unseated the bead in the driveway.
Off-road guys do this with huge tires when they are out and about so they can reseat the tires (big tires and small wheels, it happens too). I've also seen drag racers do this with drag slicks on the track.
I wouldn't personally do it.
