Default 255x40x18 on 18x7

so i have a free set of 2008 lancer GTS wheels, 18x7 offset 46, and a set of great condition 255x40x18 pirelli pzero nero tires. is that wide? i will have it in my rear.
for the front im planning 235x40x18

The 255s are probably not too wide for the car. It is too wide for a x7" rim. Personally, I would even be reluctant to put a 235 on a x7" rim.

As Neo said, tires will fit the car but not the wheels...

According to Pirelli, the minimum wheel width for that size tire is 8.5" They recommend between 8.5 and 10" for the wheel width... I can see going with a half inch out of their spec, but not an inch and a half out of the spec...

Essentially, the tires won't wear well, and could even be dangerous - tires are not made to operate like that...
