Default 255/70/16 fit on a 99 RX???

Hey its that time again to swap out the OEM tires. Currently I have the Bridgestone set that came with the vehicle but there approaching 30K and the trad life is getting low. What I was wondering was if I could put a set of 255/70/16? Would any modifications be necessary? I am asking becasue I took a trip to my local tire shop and they had a set of Goodyear Wranglers, BFG, and Mich. XRad all in the mentioned size. Although they told me there books didnt not say this being an appropriate size and therefore would not be able to return them if they did not fit. Any help would be appreciated!!!
Thanks
Andrew

i dont think so, i think the biggest size u can go is, 255/65/16. thats what i had, they were pirelli scorpion. i think ur ratio of 70 is too big, try a 65 series.

235/70/16 is the largest that will fit the rear w/o adding spacers to clear the strut tower. That size will also fit in the spare area. Try Michelin Cross Terrains.

not true, the 255 tire size will fit, without spacers, and no rubbing on the rear strut mount. i had my old 99 rx mounted on them tires. so i know it works. maybe it jsut depends on the name brand tire

ok so a 255/65/16 should fit? Do you think this will be true of all brand tires or should I steer twoards the Pirellis? Also how did you like them DJ? Could you tell me about them a little bit (comfort, noise, handeling)?

DJ, which Scorpion tires did you have. I tried finding them on Pirelli's website, but couldn't find a 255/65/16 size in any of their Scorpion tires. I'd like to go with that tire and size when I need new tires.
