Question Snow Tire Recommendations

Just picked up a 2003 GS430 and am going to need some snow tires. Anyone have any recommendations? Also, any recommendations on whether to go with 16" or 17" rims for the tires?

Thanks in advance,
Doug

Doug,

Welcome to ClubLexus. Many of the questions you may have were posted in the past by other CL members, so I encourage you to try the search feature - you'll often find your answer already out there!

I put in snow tire and directed the search to this forum area - got the following results that will help you out.

Link 1

Link 2 (addresses 16 vs 17 somewhat)

Link 3

Should be good to get you started .

Hey doug_999

where did you buy your Lexus from? I bought mine at Highland Park Lexus. You can try tirerack.com for your wheel needs. I’ve order from them twice and haven’t been disappointed. The only bad thing with tirerack is their price, what you see is what you get. If you’re looking for a better driving car, I would suggest upgrading your steering ecu and suspension and exhaust with L-tuned upgrades. I have and love them.

Picked it up from Arlington Lexus. Got my wife's RX300 there back in 1999 as well.

I was basically sold on an Infiniti G35 when they made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Got a lot more car for not much more money.

I have ordered from tirerack in the past with mixed results. As you point out, what you see is what you get. I am trying to decide if I want 17" wheels or 16" wheels for my snows. I know 16 are the better way to go for many reasons, however I have 16s on my 540 and I hate the look of them. So I am torn. All I know is that I need them quick - if I had been out in this snow today with my GS I would have been toast

Do you have stock wheels? 16s. if so, why don't you use them as snow tires and buy a nice chrome set 17s or 18s. Just buy some new snow tires, that’s what I did. But when I did that, the wheel gap looked bigger and I hated that look. So, I upgraded to the L-tuned suspension. I hope that helps.

If you’re not into the WOW look, then go with the 16s. If you want to catch people’s eyes, then chrome 17s or 18s.

I have the new style 17" rims - chrome. Not sure if I like the new style compared to the old ones - it might grow on me however. For one thing, I'm not using those chrome wheels as my snow rims
