Default Tires for a 2001 GS300

I just purchase a 2001 GS300 with 17" OZRacing wheels along with tires that are 225/50-R17. The tires are Michelin Pilot Sport a/s Plus. The problem is twofold: one the tires are noisy, and secondly the ride is rough, feeling almost every bump. I just talked to a tire store, and the guy recommended going back to 16" wheels and tires.

But just for cost purposes, I would kinda like to keep the wheels I have now, and just replace the tires. Is there a tire other than the Michelin Pilot that would help with the noise and rough ride? The tire guy told me no. But I have read online that Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires might help, or maybe Michelin Primacy might be a good option too.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciate...thanks!

Michelin Pilots are actually a quiet tire if maintained properly...

You could do a 235/50-17, assuming there is a little extra room with the aftermarket wheels... That will give you a little more tire height... Also trying more of a touring style tire instead of a raw performance tire will help with ride comfort as well... Not sure the DWS is the best choice for that...

Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus and Michelin Primacy/Pilot MXM4 would be excellent all season performance touring tires which would give you a very smooth ride... Both are also available in the size you currently have, which is a good size for the car, and also the 235/50-17...

I would agree with mitsuguy, both of those recommendations are spot on. If you were to change to either the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus or Michelin Primacy tires these would be the quietest smoothest ride you could achieve in your current tire size. There's not a tire out there that could improve the ride even further.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to go with the Serenity Plus, especially after reading all the reviews. The guy I just talked to at the tire shop told me that NOTHING is going to be quieter or smoother than those Michelin Pilots, but I am going to take a change and put these Serenity's on.
