The 18's were a balance in ride and tire replacement costs. Mine sees some off pavement roads so I didn't consider anything larger.

The ride quality has gone down when encountering road variations but it isn't objectionable to me. Road noise went up but this was my choice in selecting a summer tire. As for gas milage, it is pretty much the same. I'm an easy going driver, 28 HWY and range 15-19 MPG with a city mix and that includes slugging along at 4-8 MPH in the LA/OC traffic.

If you want something between looks and comfort, go with 19's.

GS is a big car so you need a pretty good size wheels like 19's but I think 20's will definitely look awsome. You will have to sacrafice on comfort with 20's but just a little. There is not that much in ride quality on 19 vs 20.

With 20's you can put bigger tires. like 245-35-20's for the front and 275 or 285 30-20.

I used to roll on staggered 20's but the ride was a bit much for me. I had strectched tires on the wheels also so I wonder if that played a factor. I've got 07' GS430 18" wheels right now with 245/40 and they definately made a difference. Some days though, I miss having a deep lip in the rear.
