Run Flats going flat
#16
BobsSC, I imagine most of the posters here were like me in that there were NO SC430's available without the runflats (and without the spoiler or NAV, either). I told the dealer what exterior/interior colors I wanted, and he traded out with another dealer to get mine within a few days. I understand that just about all of the SC430's imported come with runflats, spoiler, and NAV installed.
I love mine, but now am planning to get the Michelin Pilot Sports soon and store the runflats.

Michelin's $$
Re: "Bob's SC" question. My Michelin Pilot Sports cost $263 each. My Lexus dealer went to Discount Tires, bought them for me; brought them back...mounted and balanced them, and installed the spare kit assembly......the big job was transfering the sensors from the RF to the Michelins...that took them several hours. My ONLY regret is that I didn't do this on May 31, 2001, when I picked up the car!!!!.

I just went to my lexus dealer and they replaced the wheel for free. They are saying my rim was slighty bent which pissed me off cause I didn't notice that. Now I am considering getting new michelin non runflat tires. Anyone do this through there lexus dealer? What was the total price for 4 tires?

1NICESC430 question: How Much?
The COMPLETE job...Michelin tires, spare tire/wheel/conversion kit/ monogram tire cover/moulded trunk carpet......mount, balance, sensors, assembly, tax..etc..etc.. was $1637.25. He knocked 50% off everything but the tires....."good customer" rebate... (He's loyal....I'm loyal)..........Over the years, the Service Manager and I have become pretty 'tight'. I've always expressed my thanks, in writing to his boss, when the service is especially above and beyond the call of duty......nameing the mechanic/service rep. It pays to be 'nice'....I always get a brand NEW Lexus for a loner. One time, he tore up a serive bill because I had to wait 20 minutes longer than promised!!!!!!!.

Hmmm ... 50% off all but the tires .... I guess my original estimate was pretty close.
Fantastic relationship you have with your service rep. Just goes to show that friendly and accomodating attitudes (on both sides) are not only socially good, but good business.
I''d be interested to learn how you feel about the decreased amount of trunk (hah!) room after you've become accustomed to the spare kit hogging most of it

My current plan is to get the Pilots and just do without a spare. I need the trunk space for the kids' bookbags when occasionally picking them up from school, etc. Also, I haven't had a flat tire in probably 7 years, and that was with an older car. And I called the sheriff and a tow truck anyway since I had my family and a completely full trunk of luggage in the middle of the night on a dark highway.
So I just figure that in the rare instance that I would have a flat, I'll just call Lexus' terrific roadside assistance.

Re: 1NICESC430: Trunk Space
Yea....about $363 BELOW your LOW side estimate. I thought it was a pretty good deal..considering the EXCELLENT RESULTS.......re:.Trunk space.....no big deal....with top up, cube- wise, just as 'scoch' smaller....really, not that much of a loss. With the top down, sure, there is not much left. But, the spare is easily removed....and I can leave it at home for local "top-down" shopping.
