Default New Tires Quieter than the Hankook V12 ?

Hi guys,

One of the major complains with the 2IS is the road noise. Until now most of the people recommend the V12. I did a search for is350 tires and with the aid of EU Tire labels.

Front: 225/40 R18
Rear: 255/40 R18

This is V12 Rear tire label.

But the noise is coming from the front tires. Each 3 db means double the noise more !. So I will be focusing on the front.
V12 Front is rated at 72 db which is fair but not really quiet.

VENTUS V12 EVO2 K120

Now here is the interesting part. A new upcoming good year tire claims to have a road noise of 67 db !. this is something three times quiter. Look at the label:

EAGLE F1 ASYMMETRIC 3
But there is a problem.
Goodyear won't be offering the rear tires ! which is disappointing because it is not clean to install different kind of tires. In case you want the same tire you can go with the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx or SP sport RT, both will give 68 to 69 db.

I want to hear your opinions. I know many of you installed rims and don't follow the standard tire sizes, but the labels are likely to reflect the performance acrross different sizes.

And By the way I haven't tried any of the mentioned tires, I tried a set of Nitto (Noisy) & currently having a set that makes 72 db ( Front are Accelera phi, rear are Dunlop SP Sport) I won't recommend Accelera nor the Nittos. I do have the V12 on 20" Wheels however in a BMW, they are quiet but the car has better sound deadening than Lexus IS.

If these tires and their quietness really matter and you don't mind losing the staggered setup, then you can either find two more front rims and run a square setup with the tires you want (so fronts and rears will be 225/40/R18 if you go this route). Or go to the square stock 17's with 225/45/R17 all around.

Hi,

The point is I live in an area with bad roads, so noise is a must but it is essential to get quiet tires. I like your suggestion, however this would require changing the wheels & would result in rear tire spin. I have to deal with my blown struts and change them first.

I am trying not to be biased with the review but Dunlop & Goodyear seemed to be the quietest. If any one tried the new Eagle please tell us your feedback.

I've used to live in NY when I was younger but visited it periodically a lot and I can attest that the roads there are rough. If you want comfort and the stock staggered setup for you can do 225/45/R17 for the front and 245/45/R17 it will not be square like the AWD setup but you got the beefier sidewall for the comfort factor and if the Goodyears are as quiet as it list than it will be a win win even with the negligible loss in width of 3.9%.

Thanks bro
BTW I don't live in NY, I typed NY Because as most sites I can only type locations within USA. No offense, you guys should be proud lol.

I live in the oil rich country Saudi Arabia, you would wish to be driving in NY rather than here lol. I came to FL three times, only Miami had some similar bad roads, mainly the highways. However you still don't have holes everywhere as a normal thing.

Regards,

Ooh, that makes sense; apologies for jumping the gun on the location.

Yeah, Florida roads are not the best of the bunch either. The rain has provided a lot of pot holes and chips on the roads so the F-Sport accessory suspension is not conducive for a smooth ride on local streets let alone the highways.

Bridgestone Serenity's are pretty quiet tires while being comfortable. I'd take a look at those too if you don't want to get into purchasing new wheels.

Hi, Interesting because if you searched here people would say V12 is the best for a comfy ride.

I wonder what tires are you running and how better would you rate them?

thanks & have fun with your ISF ! ,

I had Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics on my Ferrari F355 and my BMW 330ci ZHP.

Great tire, and quiet.

Are these the most quiet tire available?

I have gone through 3 sets of these since new. (2010 IS 250 AWD)

I'm currently at 140k miles and was hoping to find something quieter when my current set wear down in about 10k more miles.

If you want the best tire then you will have to shed out some $ for some Michelins. Michelin makes the best tire hands down. You can't go wrong with Michelin PSS or AS3
