I'm wondering if there is a guide in print or on the internet that gives specifications of "workable" offsets and rim widths on different cars.

My question: will 16x6.5 rims with +50mm offset fit a 1994 Subaru SVX?

I'm not aware of any such guide, there is a guide of sorts for OE wheels but it doesn't really give a whole lot of info. It sounds like you have the correct size wheel and offset, shape of spoke internal diameter and other factors will also play a part in whether it will fit correctly. That said what you have there will probably work assuming its a 5 x 114.
