Default Question about Wheels?

I have been looking and looking for 18" wheels/tires for an '02 GS300 but...

Who are the decent wheels manufacturers...besides the high-end guys (HRE, iForged, etc...)?

I want to spend no more than 300-400/wheel and make sure that I get good quality...

Any ideas or experiences...

Any experience with quiet tires that are good wet or dry in a 245/45/18?

for that budget, i suggest wheels from europe..like moda..tyrerack has some decent ones for reasonable prices..

or, you can get Gewalt Evo II from arrow enterprise of japan....simple 5-spoke wheels

and you need 245/40/18..say SP5000, avs db, avs es100..or, sp9000(i have this one)

Moda R8 with Yoko AVS ES100 235/40 and 275/35 18 inch is $1760 plus shipping. Well under your target price.

Well, I just bought a set of 18" staggered Gewalt Reverse 3pc...w/ 245/40/18 Sumitomo HTR II from Discount Tire in El Monte, CA (aka wheeloptions.com ).

They import just about all the JDM wheels (almost bought some Work Seekers and Volk GT-7) for excellent prices...I would HIGHLY recommend these guys! Let's just say that I could not find ANY better prices online. They will also ship for free in the US or no tax if you pick up local in CA...

They use all Hunter machines, etc...and they are a major chain in CA so I don't have to drive all the way out there again to get lifetime alignment/balancing/rotations...

These guys are all about word of mouth...I am very happy with the wheels (I actually liked so many I could almost not decide...in the end price decided for me )

Thanks to all for the imput!

I hope you didnt pre-pay for those. Let me guess you delt with a "vick" right? A year and a half a go I too tried to buy JDM wheels from wheel options.com, vick got me a great deal on some weds kranze shokis and seemed very nice. Then he received my payment and everything changed. In summary vick made me wait 6 months with no wheels. I kept calling and asking when are my wheels getting here and he kept stalling. Wait another month he would say, and being a moron I kept waiting. Until one day I finally became angry and cancelled my order after he admitted that the wheels had never been shipped. Good Luck KVA. I hope your experience is much better than mine. And Vicks customer service was awful he acted like it was a privilege to buy wheels from him. Never again will I ever deal with him or wheel options.com and I would advise everyone here to do the same.

D.

No, I didn't prepay. I went in person and got everything I wanted then paid. As I haven't dealt with them online either, I would "ALWAYS" be reluctant to make such a large purchase online for any automotive part. I do have to say that if you are in Southern CA. then I would visit their store...they are a Discount Tire franchise in El Monte, CA! Thus it would be a little easier to take action against them being they are a huge chain in CA.

My experience was generally good with them...in person. I personally looked at many wheels that they had in stock (Volks, Work, Gewalt, etc...) There were about ten different models/makes that they had in stock that fit a GS.

I definately feel for your issues with purchasing online...Wheelmax ripped me off just one month ago! Luckily I have an in-house attorney who took car of it for me ! Even though you did not get your rims, you did get your money back...correct? If not, then I would go after Discount Tire full throttle!

The moral of this has to be that even companies that may be good in person are not the best in dealing over the internet and across state lines. We do know of a few that are "Good Guys", but since I am local to a majority of those (CA) vendors on this site, I will not experience the headache of ordering online...I will make the drive and get the parts in person.
