I have a 2016 Lexus RC F with 20k miles. I just bought new tires and aftermarket TPMS sensors online and brought the car to the tire shop (Mavis Tire in Old Greenwich, CT) to have them installed. They said they charge $25 per wheel to program the TPMS. I thought that was absolute highway robbery and told them to install the TPMS sensors but not to program them.
I'd like to program them myself. From what I've seen, a programming tool can be had for about $150. Has anyone ever done this? I've searched around a bit but have found that some videos show plugging into the OBDII port while others don't. The OBDII capable programmers seem much more expensive too. I know that each sensor has it's own ID number on it and they get paired with the onboard TPMS computer. Apparently, you can either reprogram your TPMS onboard computer to pair to a new sensor ID or you can reprogram your sensor's ID number to the existing number that is already paired to the car. Does anyone know what programming tool I would need to just reprogram my new aftermarket sensors to the old OEM ID numbers?

For a few years now, I've been using the Autel TS508 on my 2007 LS460 with great success. At least once a year I rotate the wheels and/or switch out 2 of them that run different width tires. Obviously, research for your specific application.

When I got my first set of aftermarket wheels (huge mistake & story) I also had aftermarket TPMS sensors installed. Even after programming it turned out to be a nightmare!
Hate to say this but sticking w OEM sensors is 99.9% foolproof and at least you'd know they're doing the job meant for. As far as programming, check some tire shops in your area to see if they'd do it for less. Doesnt have to be Lexus.
Born n raised in Hartford area and always had a solid shop & mechanic who could do Lexus service that's flawless and alot less expensive. Best of luck!

A couple of weeks ago bought a new set of snow tires, (Pirelli Winter) and 4 aftermarket TPMS sensors installed at a highly recommended mechanic and garage. It's early winter here and the wheels feel great, but the TPMS sensors still don't read on the car properly even though the tires are properly inflated. I have a feeling I'll need to bring it back to the dealership. Just a pain at the moment, but much cheaper that getting the tires at the dealership. Maybe the solution next time will be to buy my tires and rims and bring it to the dealership to install?
Had a 2006 RX450h in 2005 and just traded it in for this model.
