Lexus RX: How to Turn Off Seat Belt Buzzer

The Lexus seat belt buzzer will sound if the seat belt isn't buckled in. Here's how to turn it off.

If you are looking to turn off the seat belt warning chime on your Lexus, then the following steps can help you achieve this and save you a trip to the dealership. Before proceeding, it's noteworthy to mention that this article is NOT promoting not wearing your seat belt. It is a legal requirement in most states. This article merely shows you the procedure on how to stop the constant seat belt chime for whatever your reason may be. This modification is solely the owner/modifier's responsibility of liability. It is your own responsibility to protect yourself and other passengers while driving.

Materials Needed

  • None

Step 1 – Turn the ignition switch on (without starting car)

Using the power button, turn the ignition on. This can be done without pressing the brake pedal and just pressing on the power button.

Step 2 – Press the ODO/TRIP button

On your odometer, you will usually get a display showing you either "Trip A" or "Trip B" information or the "ODO" reading. Cycle through the displays until the ODO displays on the odometer.

Step 3 – Turn the ignition switch off and on

Press the start button again to turn the ignition off. Then, for the third time, press the start button without pressing the brake pedal to turn the ignition on without turning the car on.

Step 4 – Press and hold ODO/TRIP switch immediately and fasten the front passenger's seat belt

This step must be done within 6 seconds after turning the power switch ON. Make sure you press and hold the switch down for 10 seconds or more. While still holding the ODO/TRIP switch, fasten the front passenger's seat belt.

Step 5 – Change setting to "b-off"

At this stage the odometer should read "b-on." This indicates that the buzzer chime is turned on.To change the setting to "b-off", press the ODO/TRIP button until the display reads "b-off."

Step 6 – Turn the ignition switch off and on

Without stepping on the brakes, press the start button to turn the ignition off. Next, step on the brake pedal and press the start button.

Step 7 – Test if buzzer chime is turned off

Now is the time to test if the procedure worked by sitting in the front passenger seat while someone drives the car.
