2024 Sales

Manufacturers have released sales figures for the third quarter of 2024, which now gives us an even clearer picture of where the numbers will close out by the end of the year. And while we now know that Toyota and Lexus models absolutely dominated the rankings of the year's best-sellers so far this year, the Japanese automotive giant also had a number of very weak performers. Four of the worst-selling cars of 2024 so far were from Toyota and Lexus.

Lexus LS

As is often the case with models that end up with an extended production run, the Lexus LS has seen a steep decline in customer interest over the last couple of years, landing it near the bottom of the sales rankings so far this year. The luxury sedan has been in production since 2017. With a reported 1,706 units sold, the Lexus LS hasn't exactly been a needle-mover.

Lexus RC

Talk about long production runs, which is a reoccurring theme with a lot of the vehicles that find themselves near the bottom of the sales charts, the Lexus RC has been in production since 2014! That's a whopping 10 years with just some minor updates throughout. We'd say it's surprising that the company still sells the RC, let alone the fact that there have been 1,370 sold so far this year!

Lexus LC

The Lexus LC was truly never meant to be a high-production model. Rather, it's been Lexus' halo of luxurious and stylish design. From the interior quality to the unforgettable sound, the LC leaves a mark on anyone who comes across it. Just not enough of an impression to drag folks into dealerships looking to purchase one. Also in production since 2017, the LC will soon be riding off into the sunset as well, and we're eager to see if Lexus will be bringing a new generation of the model to the market.

Toyota Mirai

And the absolute worst-selling product on offer by Toyota in the US market is the hydrogen fuel-cell Toyota Mirai. The public has been going through a reversion of interest in electric-powered vehicles recently, but the lack of interest in hydrogen-powered cars never really even picked up in the first place. A lot of that has to do with a lackluster infrastructure. As such, only 346 reported units of the Mirai were sold this year through September, making it the second-worst-selling model overall, edging out the Hyundai Nexo, which sold less than 100 units.
