Colorful History

Lexus is known for a lot of things - building some of the most luxurious and stylish vehicles on the planet, the iconic, sweet-sounding LFA, the legendary reliability of the very first LS, and for cranking out some of the most memorable commercials in history, to name a few. But Lexus has also created and sold vehicles with some of the coolest paint colors out there. Here are 10 of the very best.

Infared

Infrared is a favorite among Lexus fans for a very good reason - it's quite stunning to look at in various forms of lighting. This particular shade of red has a radiant luster feel, and the process it's put down with is equally fascinating. Lexus uses silver as a base coat, followed by a clear coat, a translucent red coat, then more clear coat, after which the whole thing is baked twice for a perfect finish.

Ultrasonic Blue Mica

A favorite among many Lexus fans, Ultrasonic Blue Mica is a truly stunning shade of blue that also has to be seen in real life to appreciate. It's a bit bold and on the darker side, with a hint of purple in there depending on how the light hits it. Regardless, poll anyone, and many will name this shade as their personal choice.

Glacier Frost Mica

Glacier Frost Mica is an interesting shade of white with lots of pearl mixed in for good measure, as well as a hint of blue thrown in there for added effect. White is a popular yet much-maligned hue among enthusiasts, but this particular shade might just be the coolest version of it out there.

Pearl Yellow

For those that dig yellows, Lexus' Pearl Yellow is certainly one of the best. On a car like the LFA, it also accentuates what is already a true head-turning vehicle, making it impossible to miss as it screams down the road. At the same time, the presence of pearl tones things down just a tad, which isn't a bad thing in this case.

Atomic Silver

Like white, silver is a color that gets a lot of flack in the automotive world, even though it's the most popular hue among new-vehicle shoppers. Lexus' Atomic Silver, on the other hand, is a totally different animal. It's clean, deep, and glossy, showing off the lines of cars better than most, and it also has a nice nickel-like finish to boot.

Amethyst Pearl

While it takes a pretty bold person to drive a purple car, Lexus' take on it - dubbed Amethyst Pearl - is more luxurious than most. Donning the flanks of a car like the SC430, this shade doesn't make it look like some giant cartoon dinosaur, which is obviously a good thing.

Obsidian Black

Black is always a great choice for any vehicle, particularly luxurious ones, even if it is a pain to keep clean. Regardless, Obsidian Black is one of the best out there, with a deep, dark finish that screams "classy" every time we see a Lexus finished in it.

Liquid Platinum

Another fantastic shade of silver is the luxury brand's Liquid Platinum, appropriately named as it also takes the humble hue to an entirely new level with a sparkling finish that perfectly accentuates the lines of cars like the RC F, GS F, and those models' regular counterparts.

Matador Red Mica

Matador Red Mica has come and gone from Lexus' available color choices a few times over the years, but demand for it has never wavered. And for good reason - those that like red are sure to adore this particular take on it, as it's also quite stunning to see in person.

Structural Blue

Finally, we have perhaps the most impressive Lexus color of them all - Structural Blue - which was also quite difficult to create. Lexus says that it's "bluer than any blue," and it took 15 years of playing around with the principles of light to create this color, which requires seven layers in a 12-step process to put down.
