Vehicle

When the Lexus compact NX SUV was introduced, some critics said it was nothing but a Toyota RAV with fancier styling. However, this is entirely untrue. While there is some minor platform sharing, this is NOT a Rav4, it is a real Lexus. And now that this model has been progressing, it is time to introduce the fuel-saving hybrid version called the NX300h.

Engine

The standard NX has a 2.0-liter engine rated at 235 horsepower, and fuel economy listed at 22/28 mpg, with 25 average. This 300h has a 2.5-liter engine hooked to all the hybrid battery/generator system, rated at 194 hp total output. Claimed fuel economy is rated at 33/30 mpg, with 31 average.

Price

The base price starts at $38,385. As usual, there are options to boost this figure, and this particular vehicle was loaded up with goodies, so hit $49,387.

Wheels

The 300h comes standard with 17-inch wheels. These are the optional 18-inch wheels, but you have to order the premium package at $3,270 to get them.

Cargo

Maximum load is listed at 895 pounds, and there is plenty of storage space in the rear to reach that limit.

Touchpad

Instead of the Lexus control knob, we get the finger touch pad to operate the infotainment system.

Mode Knob

This knob provides ECO, NORMAL, and SPORT mode of operation.

Gauges #1

There are two gauge choices. Here is the first, showing a tachometer on the left side.

This is the second gauge choice with useful hybrid data on the left side in place of the tachometer.

Climate Controls

The climate controls are easy to use. We also get a nice old fashioned clock.

Glove Box

The glove box has plenty of room, but only if you take out that huge owners book.

Off-road

The NX300h has enough ground clearance to be taken off the pavement. However, keep in mind this is more of a car than a truck, so stick to light duty trails when driving in the dirt.
