The Car
The Lexus GS platform offers a combination of style, luxury, handling, comfort, and overall performance. Quality of materials and workmanship is first-rate, as it is manufactured at the Aichi, Japan plant. For those who want the best, this upgraded GSF version offers more, such as a stronger engine and more performance goodies. Naturally, this requires the buyer more coin from the base $51k entry fee.

Engine
The base GS is issued with a 3.5 liter V-6 rated at 311 horsepower. The GS F replaces it with this modern 5.0 liter V-8, cranking 467 ponies. It is hooked to an 8-speed automatic transmission, which can be shifted manually via steering wheel paddle shifters. The claimed 0-60 mph time is close to 5 seconds using premium fuel.

Wheels
Standard wheels are 19-inch matte black forged alloy. These are the optional 19-inch hand-polished split wheels that look nice, but $600 extra.

Headlights
These triple case intelligent high beam headlights usually cost $1,150 more on other Lexus models but are standard on the GS F.

Drive Mode
This master control knob offers ECO, NORMAL, CUSTOM, SPORT, and SPORT+ modes of driving. The gauge cluster changes with each set. Note the well-placed paddle shifters for picking gears manually.

Gauge #4
The SPORT+ mode is the most attention-getting of all five settings and creates a strong V-8 sound out of the exhaust.

Control
Instead of a finger touch pad as found on many other Lexus models, the GS F uses the older control stick for the infotainment system. It is far easier to learn and operate. Above are the map and menu buttons.

Screen
A large 12.3-inch infotainment screen gives a nice view of all functions operated by the control stick. The radio, phone, climate, media, and other setups are done here.

The Final Tab
The base cost of the GS F is $85,010. Fortunately, the options list is shorter than other Lexus models, as most items are standard. The 835 watt 17-speaker Mark Levinson stereo is the most expensive option, but certainly worth the extra fee. The total tab was a hefty $89,710. This isn't cheap, but luxury cars in this class never are. Since we are getting the best engineering, quality, and reliability Japan has to offer, it even looks like a great deal.
