2021 Lexus LS Will Be Hybrid-Only in Europe

One Big Difference

The 2021 Lexus LS facelift just debuted in Europe this summer, which mimics the updated design of the U.S. spec model, along with revised equipment and some new technology features. But there is one notable difference between the U.S. and Euro 2021 LS flagship sedan, and that is what's available under the hood.

Exclusively Hybrid

Unlike the U.S. LS, however, the Euro models are only available as hybrids. That means no 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, unfortunately, but this is to be expected given Europe's stricter emissions laws. And given the high gas prices present in the region, customers likely won't mind anyway.

Minor Tweaks

This doesn't apply to Eastern European countries, however, including Russia, Ukraine, and former Soviet republics, which will continue to get the V6. That engine has received a few updates as well, including a revised shift schedule for its 10-speed automatic, fuel injection control tweaks, and a new piston design that reduces noise.

Smoother and More Responsive

As for the hybrid, it too has received a few updates for the 2021 model year. Lexus says the car is more responsive and smoother driving thanks to new updates for the lithium-ion battery, which provides more assistance to the electric motor than before. Acceleration is said to also be smoother and more linear than before as a result.

Comfort Tweaks

Additional tweaks include a revised seat construction, a new tire design, anti-roll bar tweaks, and revisions to Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), all with improved comfort in mind.

Tech Updates

In terms of tech updates, the 2021 LS gets Lexus' new fully automated Advanced Park system, digital rearview mirror, BladeScan Adaptive High-beam System (AHS), and pedestrian detection function for the 360-degree Panoramic View Monitor. A new infotainment system contains both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality.

On Sale Soon

The newly updated 2021 Lexus LS is scheduled to go on sale in both the U.S. and Europe late this year. And for now, at least, it remains the brand's flagship vehicle, at least until a new SUV model inevitably comes along and takes that spot.
