Model Year Tweaks

The current, second-generation Lexus GX has been in production since 2009, though it did receive a facelift back in the 2020 model year, as well as a few updates for 2021. Lexus continues that trend by tweaking the SUV even further for the 2022 model year by introducing the GX Black Line Special Edition as well as adding more standard features.

Few Changes

The 2022 GX adds Intuitive Parking Assist, navigation, and power-folding, and heated mirrors as standard equipment across the entire range. The GX is also equipped with a refined center console with an updated 10.3-inch multimedia touchscreen, giving it a fresh look that will help keep it relevant in a competitive space.

Connectivity

All 2022 GX models come with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa integration. The premium suite of connected technology offers multiple ways to stay connected, including the 3-year Lexus Enform Remote trial to remotely start the engine using select smart devices. And, with six USB ports throughout the GX, both the driver and passengers can keep their smart devices charged and ready.

Going Dark

Meanwhile, Lexus' popular Black Line Special Edition treatment is now available on the GX 460. Based on the GX Premium grade, the Black Line models reflect Lexus' core values of omotenashi (Japanese for anticipatory hospitality) and Takumi craftsmanship with their unique premium finishes.

Distinguishing Features

On the outside, the GX Black Line features fog lamp garnishes, gloss black 18-inch wheels, a blackout chrome grille surround, a unique Black Line lower front and rear bumper valance design, Garnet Red taillamps, black roof rails, and body-colored door handles. Color options include Starfire Pearl, Black Onyx or the GX Black Line-exclusive, Nori Green Pearl. Inside, the special edition features a black headliner, bi-tone black Nuluxe with gray-colored bolster inserts and stitching, and matte black ash wood trim on the steering wheel, while roof rail crossbars are also available.

Formidable Machine

In spite of all these niceties, the GX is still a formidable machine both on and off the road, and can also tow up to 6,500 pounds. It's one of the very few SUVs still on sale today with a naturally-aspirated V8 as well, which is undoubtedly appealing to some. Regardless, a major redesign is coming soon, so it'll be interesting to see if these features carry over to the new generation.
