2022 Lexus LC Convertible: What's New and Notable?

Changes Coming

The Lexus LC convertible was revealed at the L.A. Auto Show back in 2019 and launched shortly thereafter. Thus, it remains a pretty fresh vehicle, even if the coupe it's based on has been on sale for nearly four years now. Regardless, Lexus has a few changes in store for the 2022 Lexus LC convertible that should make the stunning drop-top even more desirable than it already is.

Suspension Tuning

The LC convertible already had unique suspension tuning when compared to the coupe, but Lexus has tweaked those settings even further for 2022. Both the front and rear suspension settings have been optimized to enhance ground contact feel, linear steering response, and steering effectiveness in the high cornering G-range. This suspension enhancement results in nimbler vehicle handling and a sharper connection between driver and vehicle, according to Lexus.

Color Choices

Lexus has also tweaked the LC convertible's exterior color palette for 2022, and selections now consist of Ultra White, Atomic Silver, Smoky Granite Mica, Caviar, Infrared, Flare Yellow, Nightfall Mica, Nori Green Pearl, and Cadmium Orange. Depending upon the exterior color chosen, three interior colors are available: Black, Circuit Red, and Toasted Caramel, along with two soft top hues - Black and Sand.

Innovative Features

Otherwise, the 2022 LC convertible carries over unchanged, but it still has plenty of cool features to offer. That includes its innovative HVAC system, which adjusts the temperature whether the top is raised or lowered. The Lexus Climate Concierge with Upper Body Heating automatically manages the air conditioner, seat heaters, neck heaters, and steering-wheel heater to ensure the cabin is comfortable. The HVAC system is even optimized to send warm or cold air to the back of the driver’s hands when gripping the steering wheel.

Wind Control

The cabin is designed to reduce wind noise thanks to the unique shape of the beltline and rear molding to help suppress wind from entering. A standard transparent polycarbonate wind deflector helps restrict unwanted air from entering the cabin during low-speed travel, such as driving in the city, while the standard windscreen provides improved cabin experience during high-speed travel, such as freeway driving, for comfortable conversing with the top down. Active Noise Control combines sound insulation and absorption techniques to help suppress unwanted harshness from entering the cabin.

Performance

As was previously the case, the 2022 LC convertible is powered by Lexus' naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8, which is rated to produce 471 horsepower at 7,100 rpm and 398 pound-feet of torque at 4,800 rpm. In the LC convertible, the engine is paired with a Direct-Shift 10-speed automatic transmission. The drop-top accelerates from 0-60 miles-per-hour in 4.6 seconds, and its maximum track speed is electronically limited to 168 mph.

Coming Soon

The 2022 LC convertible continues to be a unique offering in a world obsessed with crossovers, providing a pleasant open-air grand touring experience for those that love to drive. The latest version of this model starts out at $101,100 sans a destination fee of $1,075 and is expected to arrive in dealerships in late 2021.
