New Year, New Features

The Lexus UX was introduced back in 2018 as the luxury brand's new entry-level model designed to compete in the ever-popular subcompact crossover segment. For 2022, the UX carries over mostly the same, but it does feature a handful of changes designed to keep it fresh heading into the new year which we've outlined here.

Exterior Updates

On the outside, the 2022 UX can be covered in two new exterior paint colors - Grecian Water and Cloudburst Gray - while any paint color can now be extended to the wheel wells with color-keyed overfenders, which are included on all Premium, Luxury, and F Sport trims.

Pair of Powertrains

In terms of powertrains, the 2022 Lexus UX can be had in two flavors - the front-wheel-drive UX 200 is powered by a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine coupled with a 10-speed Direct Shift Continuously Variable Transmission (DCVT), while the all-wheel-drive UX 250h pairs a 2.0-liter gas engine with a fourth-generation hybrid drive system engineered specifically for this platform.

Tech

2022 Lexus UX models offer the latest in the brand's multimedia and navigation technology. A 7-inch Lexus Multimedia System display is standard, and a 10.3-inch screen is used with the available Lexus Navigation system. The system is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and UX drivers will be able to interact with their smartwatch, Amazon-enabled or Google Assistant-enabled device.

Notable Interior Upgrades

Inside the cabin, 2022 UX buyers can combine Grecian Water with Black, Birch, and Birch with Lapis color options. Other notable interior features include 8-way power-adjustable front seats with adjustable lumbar support for the driver and a "seat-in-control" concept. Essential vehicle functions are grouped around the driver's side of the cabin, and the seatback shape allows the driver to operate them while maintaining a comfortable, natural posture.

Luxurious Features

On the road, Active Cornering Assist (ACA), a function integrated with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), helps the vehicle trace the driver's desired line through a turn by applying brake control on the inside wheels. A newly developed electric tilt and the telescopic steering column are available for Luxury grade models. In addition, on Luxury grade models, ingress and egress are made easier with the auto away/auto return controls linked to the driver's seat belt and the engine start-stop switch or hybrid power switch. Using the switch, the tilt and telescopic motors can adjust the steering wheel up and down or forward and back through 1.6-inch ranges.

Pricing and Availability

These are all obviously minor changes, but that was to be expected for a vehicle that isn't terribly old. Lexus hasn't announced pricing or availability for the 2022 UX yet, but we expect it to continue to retail in the low $30k range for the entry-level UX200 and top out at close to $40k for the Black Line Special Edition when the 2022 UX launches later this year.
