Major Upgrades

The Lexus UX300e was the luxury brand's very first all-electric vehicle, and as one might imagine, that means it launched with relatively modest specs - a 54.4 kWh battery that offered up roughly 200 miles of range. However, as the UX has been refreshed for the 2023 model year, Lexus also gave the UX300e a few major upgrades as well.

Big Improvement

The 2023 Lexus UX300e now features a much larger, 72.8 kWh battery pack, which improves range by a whopping 40 percent - to 280 miles on Europe's WLTC cycle. Energy consumption comes in at 166.8 Wh/km, and the UX EV now features CHAdeMO fast charging capability, too.

Same Output

However, while range has dramatically improved, the 2023 UX300e still offers up the same output as the outgoing model - 201 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, which is adequate but not exactly thrilling by any measure.

Special Tuning

In addition to these mechanical upgrades, the 2023 UX300e features a host of various other improvements, including 20 additional spot weld points around the body that improve rigidity. Specially-tuned front and Yamaha rear performance dampers, as well as a special calibration for the Electric Power Steering (EPS) system, are unique to the all-electric crossover, too.

Upgraded Safety Systems

As was previously the case, the 2023 UX300e comes with the Lexus Safety System+, but for the new model year, the luxury brand has added some features to that suite of safety items, including millimeter-wave radar and an improved single-lens camera. These new features enable the system to oncoming vehicles making right turns, as well as bicyclists in the daytime and pedestrians at night.

Other New Stuff

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control also gains a curve speed-control function, which slows the UX down as it approaches curves, which joins Emergency Steering Assist and enhanced Lane Tracing Assist with artificial intelligence added in. Inside the cabin, a larger 12.3-inch infotainment screen, two new USB-C ports, a digital key smartphone app, and a panoramic view monitor are all new as well.

Coming Soon

The refreshed 2023 UX300e is set to go on sale in Europe in May of 2023, though the brand hasn't yet announced pricing. Unfortunately for those of us in the U.S., it still seems unlikely that the all-electric UX will reach our shores - at least for now.
