VIP Style

VIP is a style of tuning that originated in Japan. The concept goes like this: take a luxury Lexus, Honda, or Toyota and slam it to the floor on big deep dish wheels so you can roll around like a boss. It’s pretty cool, and as much as we all love going fast, there is something that oozes cool from every vent of these builds. If you’re not familiar with this style of tuning, we invite you to sit down in a big leather chair, light up a cigar and invite some of your Yakuza buddies over for a glass of sake.

Vincent Shumai’s former LS400

Dripping black paint compliments the squeaky clean chrome SSRs that spin in style as this badass rolls up and down your street to collect the money you owe him. Just kidding, Vincent isn’t an enforcer, but this LS400 definitely looks like it could be driven by one. There’s a subtle style to good VIP tuning that this build captures effectively. Tires are 275mm in the rear and 235mm up front, which means the car has a decent amount of mechanical grip. Window tints provide the perfect amount of privacy while keeping the overall impression of the car intimidating. It looks awesome.

Nat Huynh and the LS460

This car goes in a bit of different direction from a usual VIP build. Not only is the car newer and without a hint of gangster tint, but the feeling it leaves you with is also rather different. It’s a bit race inspired with BBS wheels that look more track than street. Suspension is an air system that lets the driver slam things to the floor or raise it up for usable ground clearance. Seats on the inside are custom hand-stitched leather with brown accents that compliment the burgundy exterior quite nicely. With a supercharger underneath the hood, this V8 powered Luxury sedan is what I imagine an S-class AMG competitor would be if Lexus were to go that route. Stunning to say the least.

Daniel Kruthanooch GS430

Kruthanooch has, arguably, the coolest car on this list: a bright red GS430 that looks like something straight out of an Option Video from the 1990s. This car blends VIP style with heavy motorsport influence like a front splitter and louvers in the hood to allow for improved airflow. Airrex suspension combines with aftermarket control arms and authentic Bride seats for the perfect blend between performance and exclusivity. This car is imposing from the front, but refined to a T once the driver slips comfortably between the carbon fiber bucket seats’ side bolsters. A big ol’ wing out back is a defiant wave to the purists.

Greyson’s LS430

No motorsport influence will be found on this LS430. This strictly VIP style car doesn’t care anything about going fast or sounding mean. Instead, the owner of this car opted for a very traditional Japanese style, which places total emphasis on luxury. Junction Produce provides the body kit that takes this car from average to sublime by really working with the natural lines of the Lexus’ body. Everything is subtle with nothing that really jumps out at you, yet you know this isn’t a standard LS. Part of the overall impact has to be the huge 20x11 Wedsport wheels. There are even aftermarket curtains like a Maybach! This car is truly a VIP build to drool over.

Junction Produce GS

This car makes the list simply for the interior. The exterior is about standard per VIP style in this example, but the interior has something none of the other cars have: champagne flutes that sit in a custom made metal bar top. Seriously, this car looks more like a lounge than a Lexus. Subtle changes have been made like a metallic shifter that compliments the not so subtle styling changes that have occurred. Every seat gets beautiful quilted leather. Of all the cars on the list, this is the most subtle, but it leaves a long lasting impression. Those champagne flutes!

Final Thoughts

VIP is a uniquely awesome style of modding. It combines any level of performance you want to integrate into a build with a luxury feel in what would otherwise be a normal Japanese sedan. The true appeal of it is the customization side of comfort, which isn’t really at the forefront of the automotive scene. It’s a bit of a niche and for that, it’s unquestionably cool. Besides, who wouldn’t feel like they owned a fortune 500 company sitting in the back of one of these?
