Question Worth Asking

In life, we're presented with many choices - some of which will lead to prosperous times, and others that, well, could prove disastrous. Others - such has whether we should buy a Toyota or a Lexus - aren't quite as serious, but buying a car is one of the larger financial commitments one can make, regardless. Thus, we're going to take a closer look at this question to determine which might be the right choice for you.

1. Styling

Styling can be rather subjective, but most would say that Lexus simply makes a more attractive - if not visually interesting - vehicle than Toyota. Of course, more than a few folks aren't fans of the infamous, ever-growing Lexus spindle grille, but the brand has begun churning out some pretty attractive models in recent years - case in point, the new GX. And while Toyota is also ramping up its formerly conservative portfolio - take the new Camry, for example - you're still more likely to be seen in a Lexus than a Toyota.

2. Interior Quality

One could argue that the biggest reason anyone chooses a Lexus over a Toyota is the interior, and most wouldn't argue with that notion. After all, Lexus is heavily vested in creating quiet, luxurious, premium cabins, and for many, that makes it worth the upgrade. It isn't like there's anything wrong with Toyota interiors, but in this case, you're getting what you pay for, and some folks would rather pay for a serene experience, and that's what Lexus provides.

3. Fuel Economy

One could also assume that Toyota vehicles, in general, might be more fuel-efficient than their Lexus counterparts. After all, luxury brands tend to ignore this type of thing, because people who buy their vehicles can afford a little extra fuel and may prefer performance over efficiency. This isn't necessarily the case with Lexus, however, which offers an array of hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles with excellent fuel economy figures, even if Toyota holds the edge with the fuel-sipping Prius.

4. Safety

When it comes to safety, Lexus has few peers, as it has always placed a major emphasis on this department. Lexus is constantly updating its suite of safety tech, and as such, also earns its fair share of safety awards to boot. For many, this obviously makes them worth the upgrade, because can we really put a price on human life? It isn't like Toyota vehicles aren't safe, of course, but Lexus places just a bit more emphasis on employing the latest and greatest safety tech.

5. Performance Models

In terms of performance, Toyota offers a pair of attractive options - the GR86 and the Supra. However, those are focused, two-door sports cars, and Lexus offers an entire lineup of F Sport models, along with the F series and the gorgeous LC, to name just a few. Those seeking something a little more exciting can find it in the Lexus lineup, and the fact that many of those models are more practical is also going to be appealing to a lot of folks who simply can't haul the family around in a small sporty coupe.

Worth the Price?

At the end of the day, however, we have to factor in the cost difference between Toyota and Lexus vehicles, which is significant - oftentimes, somewhere between $10k-$20. For those who can afford it, there are plenty of reasons why it's worth splurging for a Lexus over a Toyota. Of course, not everyone can justify the cost, but if you can, we doubt you'll be disappointed with that decision.
