With all the misinformation that is spread around the Internet on a daily basis, it's hard to figure out what is true and what is fake. Here are five of the funniest and most ridiculous Lexus Internet rumors and urban legends.

1. Lexus Computer Virus

One rumor that caught major traction in the media concerned various Lexus model vehicles that had supposedly contracted viruses from mobile phone applications.  Mass hysteria followed as people speculated about what sort of horrible things could happen if a virus was to take over a car's computer, leading to disasters of epic proportions. This rumor was quickly dismissed by Lexus, which correctly pointed out that there was no feasible way for a mobile phone to spread a virus to any of the car's systems.

2. The Lexus Hoverboard

The hoverboard seen in the Back to the Future movies is one of the coolest and most memorable things about those films outside of the DeLorean and self-tying shoes.  This time, however, the rumor spawned from Lexus itself, who released a video showing the hoverboard in action.  While the project is real and Lexus claims the board is rideable, there is no evidence that it is.  So we can safely call this one a tossup until we see actual proof that it works.

3. Flo Dies after Crashing Her Lexus

Flo, the loveable(?) character from those Progressive Insurance commercials, is a character that everyone on the planet is familiar with.  The actress that portrays her, Stephanie Courtney, was rumored to have died a couple of years ago when her Lexus LX swerved off the road and crashed into a divider.  The whole thing turned out to be just another celebrity death hoax from eBuzzd, a site that is dedicated to spreading fake celebrity news.

4. Lexus and BMW Race Leaves Boy in Coma

We all see those "change your status for this or that cause" on social media every day.  But how do we know what is fake and what is real?  In the case of a 12 year old New York boy, it's hard to tell.  The boy allegedly was injured and in a coma following a crash in which a Lexus and BMW were racing, but the name and age of the boy, along with details of the crash, seemingly changed with every post.  No one was ever able to verify that it actually happened, like most of these social media requests.

5. Lexus and BMW Collaborate on Lots of Things

The Lexus/BMW collaboration is a rumor that won't die, having carried on for a couple of years now.  It claims that the two competing luxury automakers have been working together in secret on a variety of projects.  First, it was batteries for a new hybrid vehicle, then the architecture for a new sports car, then the Supra and Z2, then a project that would replace both the Z4 and GT 86 that would spawn a mid-engine baby LFA.  Is any of it true?  Only time will tell, but none of it has come to fruition yet.
