Do you know these tricks?

Lexus loves to equip their cars with some not-so-obvious features. Read this list of secret tips and tricks to further customize your driving experience with your Lexus GS. Many of these also work for other Lexus models.

1. Headlight Control

Are you tired of waiting to check that your headlights turned off? Hit the lock button twice on your key fob to instantly turn off your headlights while walking away from your GS.

2. Hidden Menu

There’s a hidden menu in the 4th gen GS that can be accessed by following the steps outlined in this forum thread at ClubLexus.com. You’ll be able to access and customize additional settings, like service menu items, failure diagnosis, hands-free voice quality settings and more.

3. Access Navigation in Motion

Although it’s not recommended to distract yourself while driving, there’s a way to fully enable the navigation menu while in motion, allowing you to enter an address on-the-go, for example. Visit this forum thread on ClubLexus.com for the step-by-step instructions.

4. Adjust Winter Wiper Placement

On the 2nd gen GS, the windshield wipers have a winter/ice setting and a regular setting. While on the winter setting, the wipers sit up higher on the windshield and doesn't tuck behind the cowl. Push the wipers down using some force, and they’ll adjust into the normal setting position while still functioning on the winter setting.

5. Open/Close All Windows

If you press the lock button once, then hold down the unlock button on the key fob for more than five seconds, all of the windows and the sunroof will open. Then, if you insert the key into the driver’s side door keyhole, turn it to the left and hold, this will close all windows.

6. Carbon Filter Sensitivity

It’s possible to change the default sensitivity of the carbon filter, which can be customized on a scale of low to high. With the engine turned on and the car in park, press and hold down the A/C recirculate button until the smog setting pops up on the A/C display. When you see this menu, use the A/C temperature control arrows to change it up or down depending on which level of sensitivity you prefer.

7. Door Lock Remote Programming

You can program the smart access remote to open all doors at once instead of just the driver’s door. Simply sit in the driver’s seat with the car off, or remain standing outside with all doors closed. Hold down the unlock and lock buttons on the remote until you hear beeps from the car. Refer to page 23 of your owner’s manual for more information.
