So Worth Traffic School

It's rather ironic that billboards exist in the first place, considering how much they can distract drivers from the road ahead. But then Lexus took it a step further when they encouraged drivers to break the law! Obviously what they are really hoping for is a laugh and a little hope that you will remember them when it comes time to shop for a new car. But some folks don't quite see the humor in this sort of advertising. In his book The Fast, the Fraudulent & the Fatal: The Dangerous and Darkside of Illegal Street Racing, Drifting and Modified Cars, author Michael Bender suggests that "billboard ads such as Lexus So Worth Traffic School do not promote safe and legal driving." Well, first of all, and as far as I know, there is no law that requires Lexus to promote anything. And secondly, if you had 416hp under you, you might dare the traffic school gods on an occasion or two. Regardless, Lexus was having some fun, and I always appreciate a little fun in advertising. God knows we didn't get any this Superbowl season. Click on for more billboards.

This is the New Lexus

As part of its "This is the New Lexus" campaign that launched with the new NX crossover, Lexus utilized some impressive outdoor advertisements. These interactive, smart billboards in Australia were able to identify the make, model, and color of each vehicle passing under them, which triggered some pretty hilarious messages on the screens. The billboards were also able to factor weather conditions, time of day, and traffic into these messages. Which is both really cool and maybe just a little bit creepy.

Nothing in Moderation

Moderation is hardly the word you would use to describe the Lexus brand, particularly when talking about the RC 350. Stylish. Luxurious. Extravagant. High-performance. Those are the first words that come to mind when thinking about Lexus, and the luxury brand pulled no punches when it came to the RC 350. From the stylish touches of the F Sport trim to the quiet comfort of its interior, the RC 350 is a world-class luxury coupe that offers pretty much any package or extra you could want in a car and then some. More responsive than ever before, the RC 350 keeps you on the edge of your seat with a thrilling 5.8-second 0–60 time (RWD). Pairing captivating styling with rear-wheel and available all-wheel-drive performance, it puts you in full command of a powerful 3.5-liter V6 engine.

Power From on High

Lexus' "Power From on High" campaign channels a little bit of a biblical reference to empower women. These billboards set up shop in Singapore, where Lexus sought to connect with lady drivers. The message? By sitting up higher in a classy Lexus SUV, you have total command over what lies ahead.

Never Fuel it After Midnight

It's not a new concept to suggest that performance cars are sinister or intimidating, and that's exactly what Lexus aimed to do with this "Never Fuel it After Midnight" billboard. Of course, everyone knows that feeding a Mogwai after midnight is how it was transformed into an evil gremlin. "F" signifies performance in the world of Lexus, but it is still a luxury car and you are in command, so obey the rules and don't let the gremlin out.

New Endeavor, Same Pursuit

When Lexus launched their supercar sneak attack, the LFA, on the unsuspecting car enthusiast world, the message was clear - we don't just want reliable, boring, luxury cars. The screaming, technology-laden, supercar may have marked a whole new direction for Lexus, but they wanted the world to know that one thing remained the same - their pursuit of perfection.

Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Jealous

What better place to draw attention to a folding hardtop convertible IS than a high-end shopping mall? Popping the top of your folding hardtop Lexus in traffic will certainly lead to some jealous looks in your mirror. This billboard celebrated the high-class look, and unique retractable top of the IS 250C, and we all know that mall dwellers care about the image they project. Tossing your bags in the trunk and dropping the top while you roll past those in lesser cars seems like the perfect premise.

December to Remember

Anything with a big red bow is going to attract some attention, and if it's pinned to a billboard, it's hard not to look. Every winter for the last 19 years, Lexus has gone with their tried and true December to Remember Sales Event. Why? Because it works. "This time of year is full of joy, magic, and cherished family traditions that last well beyond the gift-giving season,” said Cooper Ericksen, Lexus Vice President of Marketing. “We wanted to capture this idea that a ‘December to Remember’ with Lexus has the potential to create unforgettable moments that last all year round.”
