Supra Enthusiasm

News of the reincarnation of the Supra nameplate for its fifth-generation was met with a great deal of enthusiasm, and rightfully so. The JDM icon had developed a pop culture following over the course of its long hiatus. When the FT-1 concept was unveiled, the level of excitement was through the roof. When the production Supra finally showed its face, though, most of us felt like it had lost much of the spirit of the concept.

Forced Design

That's often the case with Toyota products, sadly. Though on paper, it seemed like the perfect plan, translating the aesthetic elements of the FT-1 onto the underpinnings of the BMW Z4 resulted in what many consider to be a forced, uncomfortable, or heavy-handed design. That notion holds true, especially for the front end.

Freeing The Aesthetic

When creating a new look for the MKV Supra, Avante Design took the approach of relieving some of that discomfort and restyling the car with a homogenous language that simply makes sense. And that's not something we can often say in describing an aftermarket body kit design.

JDM Spirit

The folks at Avante Design have succeeded in channeling old-school JDM energy in their two variations of the design. Things like the louvered rear windshield serve as nice throwbacks to the Supra's origins. The renderings featured in this slideshow display the aggressive wide body design with the red Supra, and the less extensive variant with the yellow example.

Simplified

With the design of the front fascia, Avante takes a much more simplified route than the factory look. The previously divided front vents and graphics have been combined into one large shape. The geometric design arguably does a better job of creating a harmonious flow with the Supra's own body lines. It also follows the shapes of the aerodynamic elements, which brings everything together for a cohesive look.

Two Variants

The more tame style of the yellow (stage 2) Avante Design Supra has an undeniable OEM feel to it. Perhaps this is the look Toyota should have gone done in the first place! And the red (stage 3) version oozes JDM vibes for days. Very rarely is this writer so fond of an aftermarket creation. But Avante Design has a winner on their hands if you ask us. What do you think about these Supra body kit designs?
