Follow Up Build

In this day and age, it takes something truly special to turn heads on the custom car world. But if there are two people capable of making it happen, it's Daniel K Song and Jonny Grunwald. This dynamic duo already collaborated on one GR Supra equipped with a Pandem widebody kit for the 2019 SEMA Show, and now they've done it again with this amazing GR recently featured at Super Street, which is owned personally by Song.

Fresh Start

Song had a lot more time to build this car than the first one - six months versus 42 days - and the aftermarket for the platform is obviously more robust now than it was then, too. Thus, he started fresh with a 2020 model and began by adding the world's first production Varis Supreme 90 widebody to it that includes a hood, rear carbon-fiber undertray diffuser, a front lip, canards, multipiece overfenders, door panels, and a 1800mm-wide rear wing.

Heart Surgery

Perhaps the most impressive piece, however, is the car's RKP carbon-fiber roof. The team actually removed the factory roof and bonded this new one in place, which is a feat all in itself, all in the name of saving 18 pounds of weight. "This was the most complex process, the equivalent of doing heart surgery," Daniel said. "It could have gone wrong very quickly."

No Rules

Song then added an Acid Green livery to the car's factory Turbulence Grey paint inspired by the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro V-12 hypercar. "The Varis kit is so complex and organic that the green accent lines allowed me to create more visual depth, to show shape," Song explained. "The eye can see there is layer and depth. I like cars that show us: This is what an aero designer could do if there were no rules."

Reworked I-6

Song then treated the stock B58 inline-six to a full performance upgrade from AMS Performance that includes a Garrett GTX3076R Gen II turbocharger, downpipe, charge pipe, and EcuTek calibration. It breathes through a titanium Remark Ti-Spec exhaust, and while it hasn't been on the dyno yet, the combination seems destined to put down big power.

Suspension Upgrades

The suspension has also received a slew of upgrades, including a KW Variant 3 coilover setup, front and rear sway bars, a custom roll cage and strut tower brace, and front axle hydraulic lift system. The Supra rolls on a set of Satin Titanium 19x10.5-inch Titan-7 T-S5 wheels, which are wrapped in Toyo R888R 305/30ZR19 tires.

Light Years

The result of all of that hard work and supreme vision is a Supra that is quite simply light years beyond most of what we've seen from the platform thus far. But given the talent of the two guys that built it, well, perhaps we shouldn't be surprised.
