Real World Data
The Lexus LX - like most models produced by Toyota's luxury arm - is quite reliable, a vehicle that you can count on to simply work the way it should, day in and day out. But as is the case with everything mechanical, the LX can and does experience some issues from time to time, which are things that owners or prospective buyers should be aware of. Luckily, owners are more than happy to share those issues with us via sites like RepairPal, giving us some real-world data to go by in this case.

Heated Seats
Thus far, the most commonly reported problem among owners of LX SUVs relates to the heated seats, which can, in some cases, stop working after 5-10 minutes of use. This problem has thus far impacted LX models from 2008, 2009, and 2010, but an updated seat controller corrects the issue.

Remote Start
Next up, we have remote start - yet another amenity, which can stop working in extremely cold temperatures of -22 degrees and below. This issue pertains to 2008-2009 models, though Lexus notes that this is normal, and there's really no solution. In all fairness, this isn't something that many people have to deal with in real life, or at least not on a regular basis.

Bluetooth
Owners of 2010 Lexus LX models have reported having issues with Bluetooth hands-free capability, or at least hearing static when receiving phone calls from LAN lines. Fixing this particular issue requires replacing the radio, according to technicians.

Fan Belt Noise
The 2008 LX can experience fan belt noise that's abnormal or louder than usual, which is an indication that the fan belt tensioner is faulty. Luckily, Lexus does have an updated component that can solve this issue after installation.

Check Engine Light
Some 2008 LX owners have also reported getting diagnostic codes P0552 and/or P0553 following the illumination of the check engine light, which is caused by a fault in the power steering pressure sensor. A newer part is available to correct the problem, however.

Due Diligence
Other than these few minor problems, the LX has thus far lived up to Lexus' reputation for building reliable vehicles that can go the distance at least mostly trouble-free. However, as is always the case with used vehicles, shoppers should still be diligent and check for normal wear items and ensure that a proper maintenance schedule has been followed before plunking down their hard-earned cash for one.
