Take away to get more

In contrast to the new Lexus RXL that added two more seats, the LX 570 sees a loss with the optional removal of the third row. The new offering from Lexus will allow consumers to order a "mono-spec" trim level of its biggest SUV in the lineup. Many domestic owners have lamented to Lexus that they desired a five-seat version of the brutish luxury SUV in order to gain more cargo space and flexibility. The brand already sells the two-door version in other global markets but this is the first time it will be offered to the U.S.

A new option for consumers

Having a two-row version of the SUV gives Lexus a fighter to go up against the likes of the Range Rover, Infiniti QX80, and the Mercedes-Benz GLS. The loss of the third row enables Lexus to drop the price of the LX by $5,000 furthering sweetening the pot for those who may be on the fence about purchasing the vehicle. While the interior has been modified for additional cargo space, the exterior has seen no changes whatsoever.

A workable powerplant

The LX 570 has the sole engine option of the 5.7-liter V8 that pumps out 383 horsepower and 403 lb-ft of torque. That engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels. Offered in just one trim, the two-row SUV will only allow you to show your uniqueness by way of the interior and exterior colors. Everything else on the Lexus including the leather seating, four-zone climate control, power tailgate and 20-inch wheels are standard.

Ready for whatever

The LX 570 will offer a drive mode selection dial on the center console that will affect the powertrain and suspension. There is also a multi-terrain select system that will let the driver set the mode for the type of road the vehicle will be driving over such as rock, dirt, sand and more. Other bits to help drivers navigate off the beaten path include a locking center differential, CRAWL Control, Turn Assist, and hill descent along with hill start assist. Unfortunately, the automatic transmission can only muster 13 mpg in the city and 18 mph out on the highway.
