Rarest of the Rare

The Lexus LFA is a somewhat rare sight, to begin with, thanks to the fact that the automaker only produced 500 of them. But when was the last time you saw a Steel Gray example like this one, which is scheduled to hit the auction block at RM Sotheby's upcoming Amelia Island sale? Turns out, there's a good reason why gray LFAs are not a common sight, and it's the fact that only 11 of these amazing machines left the factory sporting this particular hue.

Talking Contrast

The main hue isn't the only interesting thing about this particular LFA either, as it also sports a Pearl Gray finish on its roof and rear spoiler, adding a bit of extra contrast. It's a subtle look for sure, and one that doesn't carry over to the eye-popping red and black leather and Alcantara-filled interior.

Legendary Powerplant

This LFA is number 430 of 500 produced, and cost just over $388k new. Like all of its celebrated brethren, the car is powered by Lexus' legendary 4.8-liter V10, a high-revving F1-inspired powerplant that produces 552 horsepower and sounds like nothing else on the road, especially in this day and age.

Special Touches

The LFA's cabin, covered in the aforementioned black and red combination, is also packed with special touches including gloss carbon fiber and anodized metal accents, along with the requisite steel number plate mounted between the seats proudly showing off its exclusivity.

More Special

And that isn't even all that makes this special car so special. The LFA has less than 500 miles on its odometer, and it's also just one of 190 examples originally delivered to the U.S. It's being sold with a host of goodies including the window sticker, manuals, sales literature, tire gauge, and flashlight.

Price Tag

The LFA was truly lightning in a bottle, a pet project of Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda, who wanted to create a Lexus capable of competing with the world's greatest supercars at the time. That lengthy and involved process obviously wasn't a financial success for the automaker, but you can't put a price on the positive press it generated for Lexus.

Good Match

We've seen some truly interesting LFAs over the years, including a brown one or two, but this rare Steel Gray example might be the nicest of the bunch. After all, this is a car that doesn't need some screaming, bright hue to stand out. And there's just something about that subtle gray finish that fits its personality perfectly.
