Rare Bargain

Finding a bargain in today's used vehicle market is akin to a needle in a haystack, as various supply chain issues have hampered new vehicle production for over two years now. The result is record-high prices stemming from huge demand, but as it turns out, there are a few bargains left in the world - a list that includes the venerable Lexus SC300.

Luxury Cruiser

While its less luxurious twin - the Toyota Supra - remains a hot entity, the SC300 has flown a bit under the radar for several reasons. The biggest, perhaps, is the fact that it's more of a luxury sport cruiser versus a full-blown sports car like the Supra, though one could still opt for a manual transmission if so desired.

Bargain Pricing

As far as current pricing goes, well, one would be hard-pressed to tell that the SC300 was a pricier luxury vehicle in its heyday. In fact, it's pretty easy to find a very nice one for less than $10k, which is pennies in today's world. Even the finest examples can be had for under $20k, which won't buy you much when it comes to new vehicles these days.

Lot to Like

For that small outlay of cash, you'll get a fantastic all-around vehicle - one that is equally capable of taking long road trips and providing a comfy daily driver for short jaunts to work. The only real downside here is the fact that a two-door isn't the best choice for families, but if you can live with that, there's a lot to like here.

Underappreciated Classic

For an enthusiast, it's hard to find a better fit, as the SC300 was sporty, fun to drive, and luxurious. It's like a Supra in a suit, one could say, and at a far lower price. The SC300 has always been a bit underrated and underappreciated outside of the Lexus enthusiast community, but that's also a good thing for those of us in the market for one.

Decent Performer

Of course, the SC300 isn't a barn burner by today's performance standards, with 225 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque on tap from its 3.0-liter V6. But a mid-7-second 0-60 time isn't awful by any means, and there is an abundant aftermarket waiting for anyone who wants more in that regard.

Great Value

Otherwise, for the money, the first-gen SC is certainly hard to beat. There just aren't many good cars out there in its price range, let alone ones that offer so much for that small amount of money. And that means that at least for now, it's a fantastic bargain.
