DIY or Die

This might seem like your standard '98 SC300, but it's quickly developing into anything but. Grassroots Motorsports user madmax98 shares that his latest project has some big goals attached to it. Madmax98 describes himself as an “Aerospace Engineer with 2 toddlers and an insatiable love for speed,” Thus far he's already home-built a carbon fiber hood, but the projects got even more daring from there.

Full Blown Makeover on the Horizon

Madmax98 starts by sharing “My objective is to develop a time attack car,” he adds that the car no longer sees any casual street use and is now a full-blown purpose-built racer. “My plan is [to] do a full iteration to address/restore any mechanical modifications related to Engine, Drivetrain, Fuel System...etc," continues Madmax98 "Then, address Suspension and Chassis. And Finally, address my Aero (BIG PLANS HERE).” As you'll see, his plans grew to include more and more over time.

Snowball Effect

The post starts off with madmax98's project to relocate the fuse box to the inside of the vehicle. Initially, that was all he had planned, but it quickly ballooned to include even further modifications. The next thing he knew, madmax98 was moving forward with an entire heat/AC delete. Furthermore, he opted to replace the factory wiring harness and perform a full rewiring of the vehicle along with building a custom fuse board.

BBK

Next on the docket for madmax98 was replacing the brakes. While out and about, his eyes gravitated towards a set of Porsche Brembo calipers the size of Gravedigger. He picked up a pair and then self-manufactured a custom caliper bracket to fit the new brake housing along with some massive 14.2" Lexus IS F rotors. Madmax98 also replaced the OEM tie rod with a shorter aftermarket one (which led to another custom manufacturing job).

Big Aero

After the stopping/steering arrangement got its fix, madmax98 turned his attention to the top side of the SC. He quickly began work on a full sunroof delete. The long and short of it is that he (again) custom-made his own parts and conjured up a carbon fiber sunroof delete panel with whatever aerospace engineering sorcery he's practicing. But that's not even the coolest part... our guy fully 3D rendered his car and ran advanced aero simulations... the legend of madmax98 is rivaling that of Achilles at this point.

A Job Well Done

The end result was a thing of beauty, and thanks to his advanced engineering work, also supremely structurally sound. Madmax98 went about stiffening the chassis and reducing weight in possibly the most impressive way possible short of a frame-off rebuild. his crafty sense of engineering and 'I'll do it myself' mentality is nothing short of astonishing.

More to Come

To date, madmax98 has added a slew of performance parts to his SC300 GT3 time attack build. Among the many modifications are intake port matching, upgraded rods, pistons,  and bearings, an AEM EMS, R154 5 speed transmission swap, Borg Warner 8375 S300sx turbo, fuel cell, Bosch fuel pump, and more. But rest assured, the build doesn't stop there. Madmax98 assures us there is much, much more to come. So stay tuned.
