Daily Slideshow: Is the Lexus LC F on its Way?

Drive Mag has published new spy photos of a camouflaged Lexus LC spotted in Germany. But this is not likely to be just another variant, or even a facelifted LC 500. The visual cues on this test car suggest that we may, in fact, be in store for the long-awaited Lexus LC F. While the LC 500 is about as good as a GT car gets, the performance version will surely drop a few jaws.

Almost Ready

We've been hearing rumors of a performance variant of the LC 500 for just about as long as we've known about the LC 500 itself. And while Lexus has aggressively shot down any enthusiasm from the automotive press over the LC F, these shots are a good sign that we might be getting what we've wanted after all.

Is this the LC F?

But is the test car in question actually the LC F prototype? Well, Drive Mag seems to strongly believe so, and for good reason. There are a variety of characteristics on this test car that look far more aggressive and sporty than the base model LC 500. Most importantly, the front intakes are significantly larger which means more cooling, hinting at the possibility of a more powerful engine.

Styling Cues

Other visible giveaways on the bodywork include the rear bumper and diffuser, the quad exhaust pipes, and seemingly more sporty side skirts. The car also appears to be sporting some wider front fenders as well as front bumper splitters.

Engine Speculations

If the rumors about the new engine are to be believed, the new LC F will be getting a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that is reported to produce 621 HP. Coupled with the fact that some major weight-saving efforts will be going into the performance variant, the new engine will be bringing an enormous boost in performance to the LC F.

Topping the LC 500

Let's not forget that the marvelous grand tourer that took the world by storm, known as the LC 500 is already a great piece of automotive engineering itself. Despite the 4,280-lb weight, the naturally aspirated V8 propelled the Lexus from a stand-still to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds! Is it possible that with the new performance upgrades, the LC F will be creeping into supercar territory?

Oh and yes. That car in camo behind the LC is definitely the new Supra!
