A safety shield for your Lexus

Lexus makes great driver's cars, but that does not mean the company's engineers are only obsessed with performance and reliability. Safety is crucial and by employing some of the most advanced electro-mechanical engineerings around, Lexus now offers its Lexus Safety System+ as standard equipment for 2020 models.

All the safety tech is crucial on SUVs

A vanguard vehicle employing the full suite of Lexus collision prevention technology is the latest RX series crossover. For offroad capable vehicles, which often travel on gravel roads or routes where animals cross during dawn or dusk, having advanced collision avoidance technology is crucial. A driver can only see that much, especially when driving into a setting or rising sun.

Looking ahead - even when aren't

The new RX's nose section is where most of its collision prevention features reside. The tech works by using the radar to constantly ping the road ahead, and detect objects. Tech like this also lessens the driving burden, by allowing semi-autonomous driving once improvements are made.

Stopping even when you forget to

Another crucial element of the Lexus Lexus Safety System+ cluster of technologies is autonomous braking. The forward scanning radar system is linked to the RX's braking system. So, if you are distracted or don't heed an audible warning about any impending collision, the vehicle will stop itself. This is particularly useful at low speeds, where children and small animals can unexpectedly run in front of a vehicle, below the driver's field of vision.

Those cool headlights are a big deal

What makes the RX so unique within the spectrum of Lexus safety technology, are the new BladeScan headlights. Not only do they look striking, but the design has tremendous safety merits too - especially when driving at night, when collision risk increases.

Absolute confidence at night, when piloting this cockpit

From the helm, this 2020 RX's driving point of view does not look much different. However, the BladeScan lights can recognize pedestrians at up to 184ft, at night. This is a notable improvement over the previous RX's array-type lights, which had a peak spotting range of 105ft.

Showing you where the safety risks are

Revolving mirrors inside the BladeScan headlights allow the 2020 RX to illuminate very precise areas, thankfully, without dazzling oncoming drivers. The illumination beam profile has narrowed from 1.7-degree to 0.7-degrees, allowing incredible precision for spotting runners or cyclists next to the road, at night.
