Stunning Successor

Back in December, Toyota somewhat shocked the world by announcing an ambitious EV plan that included the introduction of a whopping dozen-plus new models. But perhaps the biggest part of that announcement was that Lexus would be transitioning to all-electric power in the coming years, a truly polarizing development that was offset somewhat by this stunning BEV Sport concept, which the automaker has released more images of for us to lull over.

Bold Statement

Lexus calls the BEV Sport the "spiritual successor to the LFA," a bold statement indeed. "All of the limits will be pushed, both on the road and on the track, to achieve the full potential of electrification and create the ultimate expression of the Lexus Driving Signature," the luxury brand says.

Trickle Down Effect

As is typically the case with halo cars like the BEV Sport and the LFA, its technology will trickle down to the rest of the future Lexus lineup, too. "This will define a formula that will be inherited by other Lexus models, making the Lexus Electrified Sport the symbol for Lexus' shift to a more BEV centered brand."

Impressive Stats

Along with its bold proportions and road-hugging ride height, the BEV Sport concept is also quite impressive in terms of statistics. Said to employ solid-state batteries - which are currently being developed for automotive use but haven't quite made it there yet - the coupe will reportedly do 0-60 in under two seconds and travel 430 miles on a single charge.

Vote of Confidence

These are lofty targets indeed, but entirely possible if and when solid-state batteries are feasible for automotive use. A number of companies and automakers are investing heavily in the technology, however, which is the ultimate vote of confidence in that regard.

Looks that Kill

Couple that with the BEV Sport's drop-dead gorgeous looks, and Lexus should have a real winner on its hands. It goes without saying that it needs a halo EV model to attract people to the brand's electrified offerings, and this certainly looks capable of doing just that.

New Customers

Only time will tell if the brand's decision to go totally electric will be a wise one, but we must admit, Lexus is certainly doing the right thing with the BEV Sport. If the production version looks and performs anything like parent company Toyota says it will, it's sure to attract an entirely new generation to the relatively young luxury brand.
