Popular Trend
We've seen more and more off-road-focused builds coming from Lexus in recent months as that particular trend continues to explode in popularity. Every automaker is cranking out as many off-road packages as possible these days, applying them to just about any kind of vehicle imaginable. The latest is this new 2022 NX, which made its debut at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Show alongside the automaker's hydrogen-powered side-by-side.

Head Turners
Both the "recreational off-road vehicle" (ROV) and Lexus NX PHEV Offroad concept are finished in a unique hue that the brand calls "Iron Oxide," a bronze/gold-like color that certainly gets heads turning. The NX450h+ has been fitted with a matte black painted grille, roof rails, and door handles, a smoke-colored Lexus emblem and door visor mirrors, a roof-mounted carrier basket, and 265/65R17 all-terrain tires.

Powered by Hydrogen
The ROV utilizes a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine that runs on hydrogen for a zero-emissions off-road experience, one that produces nothing but mere water from its tailpipes. Lexus claims that the powertrain is torquey enough to make it fun out on the trails and that it even retains the brand's "driving signature" to boot.

To the Sky
In addition to these two machines, Lexus also brought a one-third scale model of the Lexus/Pathfinder Air Racing team Zivko Edge 540 V3 aircraft that will be piloted by Yoshihide Muroya in the World Championship Air Race later this year.

Air to Land
Lexus claims that it is using its new air-born partnership to advance its road-going vehicles by utilizing "aerodynamic, cooling, and weight-reduction technologies and know-how gained through grueling air races to create ever-better cars for the realization of a carbon-neutral society."

Open Minded
If nothing else, this trio makes for an interesting auto show lineup, one that demonstrates the brand's willingness to explore every type of vehicle as it works toward a more electrified future.
