Farewell GS 300

A spokesperson recently has confided to CarsDirect that the GS 300 is being discontinued for the 2020 model year. However, the other GS models (the GS 350 and GS F) will still be available for the 2020 model year. There is no word yet on their longterm perspective.

The writing was on the wall

According to the Lexus spokesperson Alissa Moceri who talked with CarsDirect, "the GS 300 represented a small percentage of GS sales in 2018," adding "we are constantly evaluating model mixes throughout our lineup."

Oh nooooooo

Many folks on ClubLexus remark that they don't even really see GS models at dealerships since dealers seldom stock them. The total sales for the series totaled only 305 cars in July compared to over 4,900 sales for the ES sedans.

So much for saving money

The GS 300 was the most affordable car in its market segment of the midsize luxury sedan but all that is over now. The GS 300 bring taken off the table translates to higher base prices for the remaining two models with the GS 350 now going for $52,420 and the GS F going for $86,035.

Where do we go from here?

We here at the office love the GS series and have eagerly followed the midsize luxury vehicle since its inception in the early '90s. Hopefully, Toyota can find something exciting to do with the vehicle that will revitalize it in the face of prospective buyers. But only time will tell.
