Long Wait

It's been nearly two years since we first reported that Lexus was considering building a high-performance version of its halo coupe, the LC. Since then, rumors continue to persist. But if some recent comments from Moe Durand, Lexus International Strategic Communications Senior Manager are to be believed, the LC F might finally be coming this year.

Something Big

The comments come to us from a recent interview with Durand by CarBuzz. Obviously, Durand stopped short of confirming that an LC was in fact in the works. But he didn't deny it, either. All he would confirm is that "something big is coming to LC this year."

Open to Interpretation

Granted, that's a pretty wide open statement. Durand could be referring to just about anything, including a production version of the LC convertible concept Lexus brought to Detroit.

Performance Investment

But at the same time, Lexus is also a company that's investing more and more in performance. That includes both its racing efforts and production cars, including the new RC F Track Edition.

Make a Statement

If Lexus truly wants to announce to the world that performance is important to the brand once again, an LC F seems like the perfect way to do it. After all, the brand hasn't built anything truly hardcore since the LFA.

For the Masses

One thing's for certain, of course. We doubt the LC F would be nearly as exclusive or exotic as the LFA. But it also wouldn't be nearly as expensive, making it much more accessible to the masses.

Turbo Power

That doesn't mean, of course, that the LC F won't be fast. Especially if rumors that it will use a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with roughly 600 horsepower prove to be true.

Fuel to the Fire

Adding fuel to the fire are the numerous LC test mules that have been spotted driving around. There's no denying that these bespoke rides were built with performance in mind, judging by their unique exterior treatments.

Performance Shift

Reading the tea leaves, it seems like an LC F is inevitable. And we think that it's exactly what Lexus needs to continue its march toward becoming a performance-oriented brand.

Wait and Hope

CarBuzz believes that we could see the LC F debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, which seems like a realistic idea. But until then, we'll just have to do what we've been doing for two years now - wait and hope!
