Peek at the Future

Along with making the somewhat shocking announcement that Lexus will transition to electric power in the coming years, its parent company, Toyota, also revealed several new concepts to whet our appetites in the meantime. Along with the enticing Electric Sport Concept, it also showed off the Electric SUV Concept, though it has since revealed a few more photos of this interesting new vehicle.

Big Larger

Lexus also recently revealed the 2023 RZ 450e, but the Electric SUV Concept is a bit larger than that model, while the two share several design elements. It would presumably ride on a longer version of Toyota's e-TNGA platform that also underpins the Subaru Solterra and the Toyota bZ4x that's it's based on.

Bigger in Every Way

It's difficult to discern from the outside, but the Electric SUV Concept does appear large enough to accommodate third-row seating. The design features a flat roof and short overhangs, which should provide plenty of room for the larger battery pack needed to offer reasonable range figures in a larger, heavier package.

Futuristic Take

Up front, the Electric SUV Concept and RZ 450e share quite a bit in common with a modern take on Lexus' spindle grille. In the rear, however, the two diverge in a big way, as the concept features a more futuristic take on what SUVs and crossovers might look like in the coming years.

Production Ready?

Other small differences could make it to production, such as the Electric SUV Concept's flush-mounted door handles - a hallmark design feature of modern-day EVs and also something that the RZ 450e won't have. The charging port location also mimics other Toyota EV products, meaning that it could be more production-ready than some might expect.

Coming Soon?

While the RZ 450e will make it to market first, we wouldn't be surprised to see a production version of the Electric SUV Concept join it in the coming years. After all, to realize the goal of converting its lineup to all-electric power by 2030 in parts of the world, Lexus will need to field some sort of offering from every automotive segment.
