After Lexus unveiled the GXOR concept last year, the automaker's Canadian division has built their own GX off-roader complete with a pop-up tent.

Upping the Ante

If we can derive anything from Lexus' recent concepts, it's that the automaker is kind of serious about getting into off-roading. First, they built the insane GXOR concept, a fully-outfitted GX designed to take you just about anywhere. Now, Lexus' Canadian division didn't want to be left out, so they're joining the party with an equally cool and capable GX Overland Concept that ups the ante a little.

Great Outdoors

This particular concept made its public debut at the Montreal International Auto Show. And truthfully, we can't think of a more perfect rig for the great, expansive, rugged outdoors Canada has to offer. This particular concept even sports a massive roof top tent that gives occupants a place to sleep after long days traversing the wilderness.

Stay Fresh

Lexus of Canada started out with a solid base, opting for a GX 460 equipped with the Executive Package. To that, they obviously added the aforementioned tent, along with an extendable awning and even a shower cube. That way, you can stay fresh as you spent weeks at a time out in the middle of nowhere.

Making Room

But you certainly can't design a concept without making it look cool, too, regardless of the importance of functionality here. Thus, this GX also wears some sweet aftermarket wheels wrapped in super knobby Toyo off-road rubber. The extra ground clearance comes courtesy of Icon adjustable coilovers.

Heavy Protection

Because you don't want your GX's precious underbelly parts smashing against rocks and leaving you stranded, this rig also packs a host of armor, including skid plates over all of the critical components and rock sliders on the sides. There's also a full-size spare out back in case you inevitably cut a tire on the trails.

Stock Where It Counts

The exterior of the big 'ute is covered in an attractive shade of light blue, with a topographical map adorning the rear flanks. The interior remains pretty much stock, however, as does the drivetrain. But as luxurious as these things are, and as capable as the 4.6-liter V8 already is, that's not such a bad thing.

Build Your Own

Like the GXOR Concept, we wouldn't expect this bad boy to land at dealerships any time soon. But all of the parts here can be purchased with the click of a button, so you can build your own with little trouble. And believe us, that thought has already crossed our minds more than once.
