It may not be the fastest thing on earth, but the LC 500 convertible sure looks and sounds good.

Style and Sound

While some were initially disappointed that the Lexus LC 500 wasn't a true LFA successor, the grand touring coupe certainly has its appealing qualities. That includes its gorgeous design, something that the convertible version arguably improves upon. The LC 500 convertible's 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated V8 also sounds glorious both inside and out, which is on clear display as YouTuber AutoTopNL takes one out for a rip on the Autobahn in this video.

Sporty Car

The LC 500 is more of a sporty car than a sports car, as it's all about looking and feeling good. It certainly delivers in that department, and as a side bonus, it sounds like a proper race car at startup, while being revved, and while pushing the grand touring drop top down Germany's most famous road.

Leisurely Pace

Regardless, as we can see in this video, it certainly isn't what anyone would call quick. The LC 500 convertible accelerates through the gears at a leisurely pace, befitting of its 4.6-second 0-60 time and 13.0-second quarter-mile - not bad numbers, but nothing special, either.

Head Turner

Then again, it's also pretty much what you'd expect from a car that has 471 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque, yet weighs in at hefty 4,476 pounds. But does any of that really matter when you're turning heads everywhere you go and sounding good while doing it?

Faster Than Claimed

Regardless, AutoTopNL manages to get this big old drop-top up to 279 kilometers-per-hour while out on the Autobahn, or for us Americans, 173 miles-per-hour. That's a bit faster than Lexus' claimed top speed of 168 mph, which is impressive. Plus, it'll rip off 0.92 g's on the skidpad as well, which is pretty nice when the road is curvy and not perfectly straight.

Lesson in Excess

With a price tag just north of $100k, it's clear that the LC 500 convertible is a lesson in excess. It's excessively gorgeous and luxurious, if not ultra-fast or dramatic. But that's precisely what we want out of a grand tourer - a supremely pleasurable and comfortable driver that'll turn heads everywhere it goes.
