A Faster Grand Tourer

The Lexus LC 500 is one of the most aesthetically appealing grand tourers available on the market today. Unfortunately, this impressive car has not been able to match its speed with its looks for a while now. Rather than running on a turbocharged engine, it relies on high revs to perform. But that's how Lexus planned the normal LC to sit, as a comfortable executive GT car with a more hi-po version on the horizon.

Twin-Turbo V8

Rumor has it, however, that things could change soon. This is thanks to a press release that was recently published by Lexus about a newly-developed twin-turbo V8 destined for future sports cars and road cars. The engine is expected to debut at the Nurburgring 24-hour enduring race in a brand new Lexus LC variant.

Engine Specs

About a year ago, Lexus had hinted that it was developing something big for the LC halo car. Based on trusted sources, the twin-turbo engine could be a 4-liter V8 that churns as much as 660 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. This is an improvement of 40 and 21 percent respectively from the current LC 500 that boasts of 472 horsepower.

Joining The Big Leagues

To indicate how powerful the LC 500 will be, its 660-horsepower engine will produce 100 more horses than the Mercedes-AMG GT R. This puts it head-to-head with supercars like the Ferrari 488 GTB, McLaren 650s, and Lamborghini Huracan. The power should also enable the LC to get from 0-60 mph in just under 4 seconds or better depending on how far Toyota changes body composition. This will be delivered through a ten-speed automatic transmission for quick shifting through the gears.

Performance Upgrades

According to Lexus, the participation of the LC 500 at the Nürburgring race will enable the team behind its development to focus on factors that improve the performance of future road cars. This includes improved aerodynamic components, a sizable rear wing, hood scoops, large brake ducts, and high-rigidity suspensions. We aren't sure yet if these upgrades will be done on the LC F as well.

The Debut

The Nurburgring event is expected to start on May 21, 2020, but that will probably change to the pandemic. The new LC F will debut with its hotter and more capable engine. Fans all over the world will get to see a Japanese sports car that can roll enough firepower to match up to Italy's best. The price, however, may be just under $200,000 once the car lands in showrooms.
