Lexus LS 500 F-Sport Holds Key Advantages Over Competition

Forging Ahead

The Lexus' LS has always been a coveted ride among fans, combining incredible reliability with supreme comfort and luxury. But many folks in the luxury flagship segment still gravitate towards the Germans. So it was quite refreshing to see Forbes make a strong case for the LS after their recent time behind the wheel. And it only solidifies our feelings for this long-running model and its latest overhaul.

Price

The first and most obvious advantage the LS holds over its rival is the price. Forbes points out that the LS 500 starts at $75,450 and $81,450 for the F-Sport model. Meanwhile, the Mercedes S-Class starts at $94,250, while the BMW 7-Series will cost you at least $86,450. "The S-Class offers more in the way of interior luxury and the 7-Series is a bit sportier," Forbes notes. "But if you’re looking for a very comfortable stylish luxury sedan that will be incredibly dependable, then the LS 500 is a solid choice."

Interior Design

Forbes also came away very impressed with the LS F Sport's amazing interior. "The LS embraces a distinctly Lexus look with floating armrests, door handles, and wavy Alcantara door panel fabric which is further complemented with a sleek metal finish on the dashboard and a slick light feature on the passenger side. The interior is a very calming place, featuring few buttons and an airy open feeling. The F-Sport model adds special seats, steering wheel, and Alcantara door panels with metal finishes. The LS 500 also offers many different wood finishes if you prefer."

Exterior Design

Forbes also came away extremely impressed with the LS' exterior styling, "a sleek design with a coupe-like profile that looks stunning from any angle as they bring flavorful styling to the game with the LS." That also makes it perhaps the best-looking sedan in the full-size luxury flagship range, too. "When stacked up against others in the segment I feel the LS is one of the best looking full-size luxury sedans next to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class."

Joys of Driving

Of course, owners in this segment also expect a sporty driving experience, and the LS F Sport apparently delivers in that department, too. "The LS blends agile driving dynamics and comfort nicely with five different driving modes, responsive steering inputs, and a suspension which is eager to please if you choose to engage in some spirited driving," Forbes said. "Don’t let the Lexus badge fool you, the LS 500 F Sport is a large sedan that prioritizes an agile driving experience; especially when compared against the Genesis G90."

Sum of Its Parts

At the end of the day, the LS F Sport looks like an exciting and reasonably priced purchase. "The 2019 Lexus LS 500 F Sport excels if you’re looking for value and solid driving dynamics which offer a soft quiet ride above all else," Forbes said. "However, it does fall a bit short when it comes to interior technology and sheer driving excitement a 7-Series brings to the table. But if you value price, reliability and unique Japanese styling, the LS 500 is a great luxury car option." Throw in a huge discount over its rivals, and it's hard to argue against the LS, at least in our humble opinion.
