Shrinking Market

These days, luxury sedan buyers don't exactly have quite as many choices as they used to, given the fact that consumers have largely shifted their preference toward the crossover and SUV side of the market. However, there are still plenty of great luxury sedans out there to choose from, including the Lexus LS500 and Genesis G90 - though the question is, which one comes out on top in this particular comparison?

Different Ages

The current generation Lexus LS debuted in 2017 for the 2018 model year, and has remained largely unchanged other than a facelift it received for the 2021 model year. On the flip side, the Genesis G90 debuted its second generation for the 2023 model year, ushering in an entirely new exterior and interior design that falls right in with the rest of the modern Genesis lineup.

Interior Design

While styling remains subjective - both inside and out, when it comes to automobiles - both the LS and G90 offer plenty of style, amenities, and luxury when it comes to their opulent cabins. However, both take a very different approach to interior design as well, with Lexus showcasing a theme that's inspired by Japanese culture and history, while the G90 takes a more modern approach.

High End Feel

Either way, one will have plenty of amenities to enjoy here, ranging from the typical things like premium audio systems and fancy materials that are far more pleasant to look at and feel than the average hard plastics found in most new cars these days. In terms of high-end features, these two models have those as well, with the G90 featuring electronic door openers - like a Rolls Royce - while the LS offers massaging and reclining rear seats to boot.

Power Comparison

Pop the hood, and you'll find a similar approach there as well. The LS500 utilizes a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 that churns out 416 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque, while the GS90 features a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 making 375 horsepower in base form, or buyers can also opt for an e-supercharged variant that produces 409 ponies.

Pricing

When it comes to pricing, there isn't much of a comparison here, as the G90 starts out at a rather lofty $88,400, or $98,700 for the e-supercharged variant. On the flip side, the LS500 is still a bargain in the full-size luxury sedan segment with a sticker price of $78,535.

Value Proposition

While the G90 is a compelling option in this market, the fact that it costs a cool $10k more than the LS - and doesn't exactly offer a huge upgrade in any particular area - it's hard to make a case for it over its Lexus-based rival, other than the fact that it's newer. However, for those who don't mind tooling around in an older design, the latest version of the LS is a fantastic value in a segment that isn't exactly known for them.
