Lexus Tasks Designers with Transportation on the Moon

In the most recent issue of Document Journal, the independent culture, arts, and fashion magazine asked Lexus to come up with 7 proposals for luxury space travel. None of this will likely ever see the light of day, but the designs are worthwhile enough for your perusal if nothing else to see what Lexus designers can come up with when given full creative freedom.

The Moon Explorator

The Moon Explorator was designed for those that want to travel in big groups in a very exotic locale. Large enough to accommodate multiple families, the Explorator features everything from a full glass observatory to a spacious swimming pool too. Advertised as ecologically aware and outfitted with the latest in robotics, AI, nano and biotech solutions, the Explorator is a great introduction to the concept of luxury space travel.

Lunar Cruiser

As described on the vehicle’s design page, the Lunar Cruiser is designed specifically for the traveler to enjoy wonderful views of Earth while easily navigating the rocky surface of the moon. The main elements featured on the Lexus Lunar are the cabin with spindle shape and 6 wheels that allow for exploration across all types of terrain.

Y Lunar Mobility

If you look at the Y Lunar Mobility concept closely, it actually doesn’t look that far off from what we might see on the road in the near future. Featuring sleek design lines and rugged moon tires, the Moon Car can not only drive on the lunar surface with tremendous efficiency, but it can also hover above it, for a faster, smoother ride.

Moon Racer

Consider the Moon Racer an upgrade from the Y Lunar Mobility concept, wherein the latter is the standard option while the former is designed for those in the market for a lunar vehicle that packs a bit more punch. Featuring heavy-duty moon tires, the car features an incredibly aggressive design, with a miniature one-person cockpit for the purpose of what I can only imagine being reduced drag.

Zero Gravity

Kudos to Karl Dujardin, the Lexus designer that came up with the Zero Gravity concept. Not only is this space bike incredibly cool looking, but it also features (as described) complete weightlessness, a feat achieved thanks to the magnetic field solution baked into the construct of the bike, which keeps it above the lunar surface.

Lunar Mission Y

There wasn’t much detail provided for the Lexus Lunar Mission Y concept, but judging by its design, it appears to be the luxury car maker’s take on a moon-bound rocket ship. The design is incredibly sleek, with the Lexus brand fully brandished on the rear wing.

Bouncing Moon Roller

Putting the “fun” in “functional”, the idea behind the Bouncing Moon Roller is that it can go anywhere and do anything in all low-gravity situations and at all angles. The roller itself is fully transparent, offering the driver unparalleled views of the lunar surface, as well as the “blue marble” off in the distance.
