Next Generation

Thanks to its Land Cruiser roots, the Lexus LX has always been a competent off-roader, though folks are just beginning to use it for that purpose en masse. This tradition continues with the brand new 2022 LX 600, so the brand cooked up something special for the Tokyo Auto Show - this custom off-road build that was developed in partnership with aftermarket parts supplier JAOS.

Beefed Up

This particular show rig is based on the LX 600 Offroad, a special model available in Japan, but not the U.S. To that sturdy base, Lexus and JAOS added a host of upgrades including carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer front and rear skid plates to protect the SUV's undersides, along with Type-R over-fenders for a beefier look

Rolling Stock

The LX off-roader rolls on a set of JAOS Titanium Gold 20.9-inch Cross wheels, which are wrapped with meaty 285/55R20 Toyo Open Country all-terrain tires, which should have no problem handling whatever terrain Lexus decides to throw at its rig.

Adding Lightness

A set of mud flaps protects the SUV's precious bodywork from rocks and other flying debris, while door handle protectors do the same for those pieces. While the lightened body parts help in the performance department, everything else remains stock on this particular build.

Power

That means it's still powered by Toyota's twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 that cranks out 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, which flows to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Other Upgrades

Being the Offroad model, this LX 600 also comes equipped from the factory with a variety of upgrades including front and rear locking differentials. Unfortunately, however, the other upgrades present on this custom rig won't be available from Lexus, though owners can obviously purchase them from the aftermarket.

Alternative Offering

The goal here is to prove that the new LX retains all of the off-road capability of its predecessor. Since the new Land Cruiser is no longer sold in America, it also makes the LX 600 the next best thing for those of us looking for a large, capable, and luxurious SUV.
