Lexus & Toyota Make 9 of the Top 10 Quickest-Selling Vehicles Right Now
We list the 9 quickest-selling Toyota/Lexus models and their market day supply, average selling price, how many are currently listed for sale, and how many sold in the last 45 days.
Intro
A good way to determine how much demand there is for a particular new vehicle is to look at how long it takes for it to sell. If a car is languishing on the dealership lot for months, then it is likely because not many people are interested in it. It may have polarizing looks or is too expensive or in some cases just all around not a competitive product. On the other hand, if a vehicle is flying off dealership lots before the engine even cools down from being driven off the delivery truck, then that is a vehicle that resonates with the market. Typically, these vehicles are competitively priced, reliable, capable and efficient. These are the types of vehicles that all manufacturers want to build. And according to a recent study by online automotive research firm CarEdge, Toyota/Lexus builds more of these vehicles than anyone else. And it is not even close.
Each month CarEdge looks at the quickest and slowest selling vehicles in America. They do this by calculating the Market Day Supply (MDS). MDS is a measure of the number of days it would take to sell all of a particular model of car, based on the current sales rate, assuming no additional inventory is added. The vehicles with a high MDS number are the ones that sit on dealer lots the longest, and the ones that you may be able to make a deal on as dealers just want to get rid of them. We are looking at you BMW. Four of the top five slowest selling vehicles are BMWs. As for the quickest selling vehicles, Toyota/Lexus models dominate the list. Nine of the top ten quickest selling vehicles are Toyota/Lexus models. The following is the list of those models in order from “slowest” selling to quickest selling based on MDS.
To put these numbers in perspective, the slowest selling vehicle is the BMW i7 with a staggering 578 MDS. That means if BMW never built another i7 it would still take dealers over a year and a half to sell the ones they have in inventory today. As you will see the Toyota/Lexus models sell much quicker.
9. Toyota Corolla Cross (32 MDS)
The Toyota Corolla Cross is a crossover SUV that is in high demand as it is currently the ninth fastest selling vehicle in America. According to CarEdge there are currently 12,550 of these vehicles for sale and 17,574 have been sold in the last 45 days. The average selling price is $31,616. This might not be the sexiest vehicle in the world, but the combination of efficiency, price and quality make this a winner.
8. Toyota Sequoia (32 MDS)
With an average selling price of $79,775 the Toyota Sequoia is the most expensive vehicle on this list. It is more than double the price of the Corolla Cross that has the same 32 MDS. It goes to show that even at this price people recognize that the Sequoia offers good value. There are currently 2,887 listed for sale and 4,099 have been sold in the last 45 days.
7. Lexus NX Hybrid (31 MDS)
The first Lexus on the list is the NX Hybrid. This technology-packed, efficient crossover has an average selling price of $52,961. 2,364 are listed for sale right now and 3,425 have been sold in the last 45 days. For 2025, the NX line is largely carried over from the previous year. There are a couple of new exterior colors and some new standard features such as Intuitive Parking Assist with Automatic Braking, Auto Rain Sensing Wipers, and Power Back Door. We suspect that it will remain a fast seller.
6. Toyota Corolla Hatchback (31 MDS)
The Corolla Hatchback is the rarest vehicle on our list. Just 897 are currently listed for sale and 1,285 have been sold in the last 45 days. The car may not offer the same performance thrill as the GR Corolla. However, it offers a similar style and practicality. The 169 horsepower 2.0L is peppy enough and offers up to 41 mpg on the highway. All for an average selling price of just $27,083.
5. Lexus GX (30 MDS)
The second Lexus on our list is the recently redesigned GX. We knew this would be a hot seller the moment we saw it, so this comes as no surprise. Even a relatively high $78,013 average selling price can’t slow this thing down. 2,905 are listed for sale and 4,384 have been sold in the past 45 days. If folks don’t think there is still a market for a traditional body-on-frame SUV, just look at Lexus GX sales. People love these things.
4. Toyota Corolla (25 MDS)
From here on out, it is all Toyota models. And they all have a 25 MDS or less. These vehicles are not on lots for very long at all. With an average selling price of $25,367, the Corolla is the least expensive vehicle on the list. But there is a reason why the Corolla has been one of the best-selling cars in the world for decades now. For a reasonable price you get a practical sedan that will last as long as the Earth itself. 18,157 are for sale right now. More than any other vehicle on our list. But 33,262 have been sold in the last 45 days, which is nearly twice as many as the Corolla Cross which sold the second most during that time.
3. Toyota Highlander (25 MDS)
The Toyota Highlander has been a hit since it was first released for the 2001 model year. The redesign for the 2020 model year has only enhanced its appeal. The average selling price is a reasonable $49,000. That is nearly exactly what the average new car price is today. 5,413 are listed for sale right now and 9,891 have been sold in the last 45 days.
2. Toyota Sienna (23 MDS)
Some folks may hate to admit it, but sometimes you just need a minivan. Once that third kid arrives, it gets tough to shuttle them and all of their stuff around in anything but a minivan. And the Toyota Sienna is an excellent one. The average price of $51,246 may seem high until you realize everything you get. Besides all the room you get a minivan with available AWD, 3,500-pound towing capacity, 36 mpg combined rating, and 7 USB ports to keep everyone charged and happy. 6,237 are for sale right now and 12,246 were sold in the last 45 days.
1. Toyota 4Runner (18 MDS)
This should come as no surprise to anyone looking for a 4Runner. They are tough to find at dealers even with an average selling price of $51,417. Some of this can be due to the fact that Toyota is currently transitioning to an all-new 6-generation 4Runner. But the real reason is despite being packed with older technology and an inefficient engine, people love these things. They are as dependable as the sun and retain their value extremely well. 3,616 are listed for sale and 9,158 have been sold in the last 45 days. So, you probably won’t be able to negotiate much of a discount, but you will get a legendary SUV.
